The plant has a genetically Predetermined "maximum" amount of bud it can produce, its said that certain strains will divide equal amounts to the topped region in the amount of what the top cola would have held.. I say this because some strains wont reach that maximun amount without being topped as it does not have the branching to do so. Blueberry is one strain used in the grow bible as one of these examples....

If you top, give the plant a chance to establish the new growth before flipping...

thanks....but what about the time...for example a 12 week harvest would turn into what if I top?....(12 weeks normal---- ? weeks topped)

Your topping should take place in veg so it shouldn't change the length of flowering (12/12 lighting). Weather you will be able to top twice and complete transplanting and recovery within 5 weeks is the question.

How does LST fit into this rationale?

Surely the same effect is achieved. Meaning maximum potential can be achieved without topping.

This. ^

I have grown out two of the same strain (Blueberry Gum from G13), similar phenos - one topped, one not. They both finished so closely that I don't feel there is much difference caused by the topping. However, as the quoted poster states, recovery time is a factor. Mine were flowered two weeks after the topping.
