Hey guys I searched and didn't find a definitive answer. How long (average) does it take once a germinated seed is placed into some soil before it will start to sprout or break ground? I have 7 germinated seeds I placed into some soil about 24 hours ago. I know it won't happen that fast just wondering as to when i can expect my babies to come up. Grow room stats are as follows.

Temp : 72 degrees
Humidity: 46%
3 26 watt cfls at 6500kelvin
Generic soil light on newts from Steins for now
tap water left out to dissipate chlorine

I'm not sure as far as watering goes either...i just poured enough water in the cups to get the soil wet for the seeds. Maybe a couple oz for each cup.

Sorry I wrote a book but I just want this first grow to be a success and I'm still very new at this.

Thanks

2-3 days water when the soil starts drying out

No lights.Only turn your lights on when they pop out.Keep it warm, they should pop in a day or so as long as you didn't bury them too deep.

what i do is put them in moistened peat moss cups with plastic over the tops. then i put them on a heating pad for warmth with a towel over them so no lights reach em. works 99 percent of the time.. also the plastic over them keeps the moisture in..

I put 10 germinated seeds into soil last night and half had already broke the surface by lights out tonight. I had two 26w cfls on the tray and the temp in the grow room today was a steady 77f. This was my first time doing this, too.

I'm thinking maybe i planted them a little too deep. Last night i moved some dirt around to take a peek at how one was doing and it had planted itself with a nice root...so i know they are growing. However tonight i looked at my cups when i got home and i have a seedling!! It's about 3/4" above the surface.. and it hasn't been 48 hours yet so i wouldn't really say i'm behind schedule. What do you guys think?

Sounds about right. Be careful about digging around in there, though, they are very delicate at that age - easy to damage.

Usually a couple days tops for sprouting is normal. I actually keep the lights only a couple inches above the soil and on so as soon as the li'l ladies sprout they have something to look at. :)

Awesome!

I had two more stand up today and one more just starting to break the surface. The first five are even starting to get their fist set of real leaves. They're so cute. :D
