How long to test temp in a grow room

I have a 1000w light with a 4 inch duct venting a 3x6x9' room. I just hooked up a 180cfm vortex fan and I'm wondering how long I should test run for a good temp. The light is just a batwing style hood but the duct is pulling air directly from the light.

When you say batwing type reflector,, are you saying that there is no glass cover on the hood and that the hood is not vented?? If that is the case, I assume (dangerious word) that you are venting the room and not the light. If that is the case then I would run the fan with the thermometer at light height for about 15 min. Then move it to plant height for 15 min and then at ground level for the same. This way you will get a good idea of the heat layers you have with the 1000w. Then you can adjust your light to avoid heat issues on your plants. IMO your fan should be a wee tad bigger.

good luck

Well the temps flux in the day and night, so keep that in mind. But if you just let it sit for an hour you'll get a good enough idea. If its night time and your already pushing 90, common sense says during the day it's going to be even hotter. The ideal temp is 70-80 F, but the plant will slow down (but still bounce back) if it goes as low as 30 or as high as 100.

ive noticed that the temp in my closet gets up to 100*F when the plants are not in there..i figured it had something to do with the wall to wall mylar i have? dont know for sure, but i do know that once there in there it drops to about 85*F (and thats at the canopy). so i think that as long as its not above 100*F in there, stick them in close the door wait 20 min and take a peek.if the temps are going to skyrocket they will in a matter of minutes

Also keep in mind that you need some neg pressure to vent your room. If the door is wide open your while venting, it is not gonna do squat to keep it cool. Leave the door cracked about 1/2 to 1 inch and check temps 15 min later. If it gets to how you may have to invest in a vented hood or a bigger fan. JMO
