Hello everyone, my question is how many cfls would you need to flower a plant and get nice buds? I have a plant that will be 10 weeks old in just a few days. I had her growing outdoors from the start. Now I need to flower her indoors because of curious nosey neighbors. She has been lsted from the start. The canopy is almost even.

About 50 watts (0-?grams)to flower a plant to bearly keep it alive. about 300 watts (0-35g) to get a few weeks worth of weed after waiting for months. About 1000 watts (0-100+g) to get a month or two worth of weed. 400watt HPS>1000 real watts of cfl's. Strain, environment mean just as much as lighting

Also, flowering an outdoor plant with cfl's will have even less of an effect because the plant is already hardened off for sunlight. Especially if you vegged in the sun for over 2 months. It will still flower dont get me wrong, will just take forever!

So could I flower her with a 400 watt hps and get a decent yield? Or just try to finish her outdoors? Thank you for the replies.

You could use a 400 Watt HPS and get a "OK" yield (depending on your dimensions.) At this point, CFL is out of the option, unless you want a very long time span with a low yield. For 1 plant, a 400 Watt should be fine, but that all again depends on the dimensions of the grow room your putting it in. Keep in mind (at least for me) I like to have at least 5000 Lumens per Sq Ft. The more, the merrier.

Thank you for your reply. The grow area would be a 32x32x60 tent.

Now I'm assuming you mean inches? SO roughly, (2 1/2)FT. X (2 1/2) FT X 5 Ft. So to get the Square footage, you multiply length by width. Which in this case would be equal to 6.25 Sq Ft. So its a bit small. In this case, you could actually do a shit load of CFL's as long as the lumens per Sq Ft are at least 5000. So check this link out: Click Here
SO this lil puppy puts out around 3900 Lumens Each. so lets do some more math: 6.25 Sq Ft X 5000 (lumens) = 31250 (lumens)
So you will require 31,250 lumens to efficiently give your plant what it needs. SO, 31,250 (lumens) / 3900(1 CFL) = 8.01 SO, you will need roughly 8 of these lights to efficiently cover your area. So Depending on how far along it is in Veg, maybe a HPS would be the way to go. ( however it could over grow this area depending on how long you vegged.)However, it depends on what is convenient for you. You obviously could go the CFL route, If you get the right Lumens per Sq Ft. Hope this helps. Leme know if you have any more questions. Good luck bro!

I've always looked at CFL's as a supplemental light source for those hard-to-get to places in a grow room. If you're considering a boat-load of CFL's to grow a plant.....spend just a little more money and at least get yourself a T5 HO set-up. CFL's are hot, are really not all that efficient when comparing usable wattage, and soooo many people on here have burnt the shit out of their plants using them.

T5 florescent lighting is relatively much cooler, offers a better light spread, gets more wattage to where you want it, and if you mix your bulbs correctly will give you a superior plant.....arguably better than HID's or LED's.....NOTE: I said arguably.

If you're on a tight budget, check out Craigslist for a used fixture and bulbs. I got my 4' four-bulb fixture with four good bulbs for $45. Home Depot online has very good T5 fixtures including bulbs and free shipping (in plain brown box) in just about every configuration available. I bought a 2' four-bulb rig for $95 and currently have two 2' plants happily vegging under it.

Here's Home Depot's 4' four-bulb rig with bulbs included:

If you can get a 400-600w HPS that would be best, if you have to use CFLs i would use over 100w per plants. 200w would be fine.

Ya I like this, I dunno why I never mentioned anything about T5's. I personally use 4, 4 ft. 4 tubed T5 Floro set ups for my veg room. They are the best for veg IMO
