I'm in BC, I haven't a clue.

Well if you look at the daylight hours pattern chart (many listed and searchable through google.com) here in California we don't get more than 14.5 hours of sunlight through out the year. 12 hours is the amount of sunlight we are receiving from the sun now.. Make sure you arent going to run into any super cold nights and plant whenever you think is right. Inland and coastal weather is totally different, don't let anyone tell you different. Use your intuition with this one... I just started over 20 seedlings for outside. It might be a tad early but what's a risk?!

if the plants need 12 and 12 to flower and that is what we get in the fall to winter time then i would think that you should start some time in spring or summer. but i agree with ganjammin use your best judgement

I'm on the 36th parrelell in the U.S and have been putting mine out around the 3rd week of April. Last year I put one out around april 2nd as a test. It showed no problems in the end and was one of my biggest plants at harvest! This year I've already got one outside. It turned out to be a male so I didn't really care to hurt it as a test subject. He's been thru one frost since I've set him out. (we've had a very nice streak of warm weather. Spring has come early and I'm glad for it!) I look for approx 3 more frosts and then I'll go ahead and put mine out for this year. Probably sometime around the 3rd week of March (I hope). But the moral of the story is: use your own judgment and experiment to see what works for you. All the advice in the world hasn't helped me w/o a lot of trial and error on my part. Got break a few eggs to make an omlette! lol

Go get a farmers almanac, it has all the sunrise/sunsets schedules in it as well as first/last AVG. frost dates. Dont worry about sunlight hours,worry about temps and frost.Are you planting seeds/seedlings or well established plants? If you have well established plants that have been under say 18/6 lights, if they go outside under less hrs of light they may slow growth a little, possibly try going into flower? but once they get acclimated they should get back into veg.

... like others are saying, try it out and see. Put a few seeds out every two weeks that way you'll know for next year.

It all depends on where you are in the State of Cali. There are several different frost dates depending on where you live. Some are in january and some go all the way out to May. So do some research and test what works in your area. Use one plant as a sacrificial lamb for your tests. You will be better prepared next season. dirrtyd
