How many plants would a 600W HPS light cover?

Hey guys. New here. Gonna be hopefully planting my garden in a few weeks. Just trying to ask some questions and get an understanding of what's going on before I actually plant anything.

Anyways, I know a 600W HPS would cover a 3.5 x 3.5 area, but how many plants would you be able to fit in that area to be sufficiently lit?

im thinking about 6/9, depends how big you want the plants, how long you Veg/Flower?

Not too big. Probably no bigger than 3.5 feet.

thats full cycle,right i hope,,not just Veg. right because then the plant will be about 7/8 feet by finsh time..you need to go in flowering by about 12/18 in.so the plants about 4/5 feet.

i have a 600w HPS, right now i have 3 plants in flowering 3 weeks in. this is my first batch. i cloned 8 for my next batch ready to go... Take a look at my setup...

9 sounds like a little much to me... what are you growing in? if a grow cab be careful to not have things too crowded.

nah, not a cab. I've got a room. I ultimately wanted to grow 16-20 plants. What I really should have asked was how many lights would I need for 16-20 plants, and how much room do you think it would take up? Space isn't really a factor for me, I can section off the space into a smaller section for the plants.

Basically, I was going to have two rooms. One veg room, one flowering room. I'm now thinking I'll go with two 1000W HPS for the flowering rooms (going to do 20 plants). And for the veg room I'm going to also get two 1000W MH lights for 20 plants. I'm goign to start with about 20 seedlings, take clones when they're ready. Test for females, and then keep the clones growing while moving the originals to the flowering room. I'll then take a second batch of clones from the first, and then move the first to the flowering room, while keeping this new batch of clones growing. So basically I'll be producing buds year round. Anyone have any input/advice/pointers/tips, it'd be much appreciated?

they usually say about one square foot of floor space per plant so you could do nine in a square yard/meter. check out sog or scrog though. better use of the space.

Well. I have two 600w, the horizontal can do 3 x 3.5 feet, but the vertical with a good shade does 4 x 4 easy. That's just my experience.

sog a 3 by 3 tray striate root to flower, do 20 in 4 by 4 cubes get 1 oz a plant. saves time, gives you at least one more harvest a year, with no veg.

1 oz a plant? Isn't that kind of low?

I have a 400hps with six 65 watt cfl and its taking care of 12 plants with ease..so under the 600m you should be able to do at least that.......the room you have is about exactly how im growing...you should veg to about 14-18 inches then bloom then you will keep them uner 2.5 feet or so..good luck....smoke on peace...

I'm not sure about the amount, but it depends on what you want to do. You can grow fewer plants and get more yield per plant - basically growing them bigger and getting enough light penetration to the lower branches. Or you can grow lots in a sea of green getting a lower yield per plant, but only being concerned about the buds on the top of the canopy. The SOG plants mature faster in less time. While you get less per plant with SOG, you make up for it with the number of plants. If space is limited, a SOG grow can give you a really nice total yield.

Say, DWC system in there. Making a grow box out of it. Was thinking 5 or 6 plants, with a 600W light in there. Was gonna make two boxes. One veg chamber with a 600w mh light, and flowering chamber with a 600w hps light. was gonna cut holes on the sides for intake/outake.

think that would work?

9 or 6 you will get much the same amount as a 600 can only support so much growth. If you have 9 the light penetration will stop at about 18" haft way through your grow so only the top half of the plant gets light. If you go with 6 the light will penetrate further and you will get better growth on the bottom third of the plant.

so if you can here's what you do.
try to find a fast indica you like, ie: grand daddy purps.
have a mom area for your gdp.
take 3 clones, as soon as they root, or maybe even give them a week of veg, so around 3 weeks total, 12/12 them.
take 3 new cuttings and keep putting them in there as soon as they root or close to.
in no time you will have a perpetual garden, harvesting 3 plants every 3 weeks.
with about a quarter to a half ounce every plant.

but otherwise i would only put around 6 in that space you have, 9 tops.

i just got a 600hps with a xtrasun hood and ballast . now the information and operating instruction says that it covers 6.5 by 6.5 , but what read and hear it is 3.5 ft. anyone know the truth?

I got it watts divided by sq feet is the determined crop style. Thanks for the help
