How much BAS for a 4x4 tent?

My next round I am going to be giving BAS a try. I am sure many of you have played around with various container sizes for a 4x4 tent, so what worked best? I have run 4x5 gallon smart bags and currently running 3x7 gallon smart bags. Training is certainly easier with the 3x7 but I am upgrading lights this round as well so It wont be a fair comparison for yield. I have read alot of post saying less than 10 galls with living soil is a different animal so it made me wonder what you other 4x4 folks are running?

Am I right in thinking the amount of soil for a 4x4 tent could be the same number regardless of plant cont? 10x5 gall pots, 50x1 gallon pots, 2x25, etct...? If so, what is your soil amount?

I am not neccesarily opposed to mixing my own, just seems to be equally pricey once I source all the indegriants since many of them are enough for 15 batches of 200 gallons lol

I would go with the biggest size pot that you can fit 4 of, or just get a 4x4 garden bed and fill it with soil. Fill as much of the footprint as you can with soil, then train the plants to fit.
I'm in a 2x4 right now with (2) 10 gallon fabric square pots. Ive got plenty of room for bigger pots, next time I'll go with 15 or 20 gallons. They say the more soil the more forgiving in organics.
I mixed my own soil, wasn't too expensive. I made 10 cu ft for around $200, using mainly Down to Earth dry ammendments. Make sure to get some malted barley and grind it up and mix it in. Really supposed to help with the soil life.

That is what I am starting to lean towards. I have looked at some of the 100 gallon single pot setups but I am not ready to go that far yet. I am still learning and that involves another level of knowledge. I am trying to achieve a water only setup in individual pots but just like anything in life, quality soil is not cheap when you are talking 100 galllons worth lol

Two plants in 20 gallons. 7 week veg. Im building a 5x4 raised bed tonight and getting away from the pots in general. 400 bucks for 27 cubic feet of soil should fill my bed about 16 inches deep.

I'd do 4 15's, or 20's if they'll fit. I know 4 15's fit. I use 15 gal plastic pots for my no-till. But the bigger the better for living soil.

I only ask as this may help everyone. I think I have my soil recipe set already but what is causing your soil to cost 400$? Do you have a lot of stuff in it?
Are you building the soil yourself? Like buying bags of Sphagnum and individual amendments?

Not sure if you've looked at doing 30 cubic feet if soil before. Thatd be like 20 big bags of fox farms. Which would be over 600 dollars by me. I actually spent a little over 300 on soil and almost 100 on e everything else for the bed and irrigation. Here's my soil
Sphagnum peat moss 12cubic feet = $75
4 cubic feet vermiculite = $21
4 cubic feet perlite = $25
300 pounds worm castings = $180
2 pounds insect frass = $25
Then to that ill add all my amendments which will be
Kelp 1 cup per cubic foot
Alfalfa
Seabird guano
Earth dust boost
Earth dust base
Azomite
Mixed minerals
Oyster shell
Mycorrhizae
All my current trimmings and stems
And some of my current mix
I dont think I'm leaving anything out. Got the frame built last night. Took longer than anticipated due to the boards and plywood not wanting to fit and me having to take doors off the wall lmao20201109_221343.jpg
