Alright, so i have a 400 watt HPS lamp, how much better is Metal Halide at vegetative than HPS?

i've seen a million threads that say MH is better, but i havent found anything quantifiable yet about the improvement.

i have a lumatek ballast, so i can buy a metal halide bulb if its a huge improvement, just trying to see whats what

thanks for the help in advance

MH is a blue spectrum bulb hps is red, people say that the red spectrum will make your plants more lanky and that the plants will strech and grow to tall but with a blue spectrum bulb you dont have this problem thats why you use a hps bulb during flowering because the plants grow so fast they need all the extra energy

Oh my friend, There is a HUGE difference. I have heard a lot of people just going HPS lately.....but they are just being lazy! Metal Halide is WAY better for VEG. You will get faster more robust growth with shorter nodes and bigger leaves if you use the MH . As well as a beautiful blue green tint to your leaves. Also ,IMO the plants are just better looking in the more natural white/blue light. DEFINETLY switch to HPS for the flowering though. For Sure.

thanks, looks like i should really invest in a MH bulb. does anyone have experience with lumatek ballasts and what i would need to do to set it up for MH?

just plug it in and go? specific bulb? do i need a conversion bulb or can i just use a run of the mill one since i bought the electronic ballast?

This i have the answer too, yeah you just plug it and go,
they are great ballast's,if it has a super lumens switch
you will get up to 27% more lumens per watt if you use
a hps bulb!!!!
