How much can CFL's heat up a closet grow room?

Hello everyone, first post here, so don't tear me a new asshole lol.

I read in a thread somewhere that somebody had a 250 watt CFL in a closet setup and it went up to 105 degrees, so I'm setting up a closet grow right now, and am concerned about this potentially being an issue. Maybe they didn't have good ventilation or air circulation, or outside temps were already high. But if I got a cool 68 degree temp outside the room, with ventilation changing the air of the entire room every 3 minutes, an oscillating fan blowing at the top of the plants and lights, and am also using 250 watt CFL in 5 square foot space (40 cubic foot), would high temps still be a valid concern?

I haven't grown yet, just trying to get everything down-pat before I start.

I have an idea though in case the heat is high, even if its 80s I'm gonna wanna try it: I'll poke a hole in the rubber inseem lining of my freezer which is close to the closet, and line tubing into it, right into the vent in the back where the air coming out is coldest. Going 4 feet outside, that would connect to an airsealed glued shut tupperware container with a 950 gph commercial air pump inside, which nozzle pokes outside of the container and the connected tubing goes through the wall into the grow room, probably right above the light to cool it. The plug of the air pump would obviously have to come out of the container so I could just seal it with gorilla glue, but I'd have to put a second bigger hole in the wall for the plug to go through to be plugged into a thermostat that tells it when to turn on and off. I'm sort of a perfectionist so if any of you guys could make good recommendations on humidifiers, dehumidifiers, thermostats, and humidistats I'd appreciate it, it seems like I'll have temperature under control, but I don't wanna neglect humidity, cause I read lower RH during flowering and harvest boosts resin production, and that would be most favorable.

I will only be growing 2 plants at one time to start, so they have plenty of root space in the 18 gallon container which will be filled with half organic soil and half perlite. I will defoliate, LST, supercrop, and FIM these babies so the goal is to surpass the 1 g / watt / plant I've read about so many times, so I'll have at least a lb from the 2 fat mommas. I'll be doing one feminized super bud, and one feminized pure kush. Later grows will include liberty haze, the doctor, bubble yum, BBxWW, super lemon haze and so much more. Watch out for me guys I hope I can blow your minds! :weed:

That sounds like a rube-goldberg inspired way to cool a room ;)

Just get a good exhaust fan that will draw air in from the outside room. The exhaust goes on top and the intake goes opposite side, on the bottom.

250 actual watts of CFLs?

If you pull over 1g/watt with CFL's on your first grow I would be impressed. At least a pound? I wouldnt count on it.

Two plants in one container? 18g? defoliate? LST, supercrop AND FIM?

Maybe you should set your sights a little lower. Those plants will not need 18g of soil. If you vegged them long enough to fill that pot, you would never be able to flower them well with CFL's.

Get a couple 3g pots. If youre going to try a training technique, pick one for now.

Keep in mind, CFLs dont penetrate much so youll want to keep your plants relatively small and maximize the light you have.

and throw your expectations out the window. Plan on learning a lot for next time. Do what the plants want, not what you want.

If you are successful and get a few ounces per plant, consider yourself lucky.

I agree. I have been growing for almost 3 years and have changed my set up at least four major times......from aeroponics, to dwc, to super soil, to a homemade organic soil in a no-till setup using Korean Natural Farming implements. You have to dial in your style and environment before you even worry about yield.

Get your area as nice as possible and just worry about if your plants look happy or not. Leaves should stand up on their own and be lush and green. Buds should be compact and resinous, you should not see nanners or a lot of crazy stretch. Work on that and the yield will come. :)

If you are worried about heat, get a high low thermometer to put in your tent. This will give you the exact range you are within. A lot of factors will effect temperature. Sometimes it is difficult to judge what will and will not happen without seeing the setup or knowing the local environment.

And btw....250 grams is about half a pound and you will be incredibly lucky if you ever get that off your cfl set up. Two grams per watt will NEVER happen, don't set yourself up for failure. You are growing a beautiful wonderful plant that God put on this earth to work in synergy with our bodies. This is an experience, not a competition. Enjoy the process.
