DJJ...what size are your SmartPots? And what did you pay for one of them? I'm thinking of putting a couple in another spot outside my fenced garden and try them out. I've been wanting to use them for years and have tried to find the exact material to make my own. Apparently its asphalt felt material. I've been handling them, but haven't bought one yet. My favorite place in town has 100Gal pots for $37 each. The other places charge way more. :peace: GG

I KNEW I shouldn't have said that!! I don't have a sack....I'm a woman...and single. So, no sacks! Hahaha!

last year i used 100 gal smart pots with kellogs outdoor patio plus soil from home depot. $5 a bag, i put 8 bags in each pot. watered with roots organics bloom and the end result was very nice;-):leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf::leaf:

holes that big. in a perfect world i would throw some alapha meal in the bottom. like 4 coffee cans full. some bone meal. a few fish. and fill the top back in with your old mix. this has to been done a few weeks before planting.

This is an awesome trend.. Is the Maxsea you guys are talking about the stuff that comes in the round container that is 3-20-20?

Yeah, The MaxSea Grow is 16-16-16 and the Bloom is 3-20-20. I found another product that is the same (competition!!) formula except it's less expensive by about 40% and it has magnesium in it, which MaxSea does not. So you don't have to add Epsom to your tea to get it. It's called Sea Grow. Check it out and see if you like it. I'm getting some this year and do a comparison. :idea: GG

Nothing, zero, zilch. Organic horse manure, solubal mychorrizae and tomato miracle grow to correct it. I feed it grips of potassium towards budding. That simple, zero problems, ever, except the time a plant fell over when it rained because I didn't pack the hole tight enough but it worked just as great as training and had about a dozen tops.

Hi there, We moved recently and I am getting a new garden plot ready for the season. I am doing a permanent bed garden and want to upgrade the size that I used to garden (30x40) to something larger.
Wondering if someone can help me with a couple of questions I have:
1. How big a garden should I plot for our family (we have 5 children)? I would like to can quite a bit.
2. How much compost/topsoil mix should I have to pile on top of the existing site (am going to kill sod with newspaper and do the "no till" method)?

400 last year...in.smart.pots...still got the dirt in a pile in the back yard with about 50 gallons of coco...prolly gunna reuse everything,add a hand full of new bags this year along with earth worm castings and bat guano...feed with tea...keep it alot cheaper

I went and self collectected some rotted manure from the local heathland,woods and its better than anythink i have ever bought

One big bag of Fox Farms cost about 12 bucks fills a ten gallon pot, so that amount for each plant for my past grows. Not too shabby

$10 per hole sounds about right.

Has anyone noticed the price of this stuff has gone way up. Last year a small bag of promix was like $5.50. They are $6.99 this year.

if u live near this stuff u should use kudzu compost. i use it in my home garden and everything grows like crazy. this man even set a record for a 27ft tall tomato plant using the stuff. it has a ton of nitrogen and its free .

It's the price of fuel. Everything is trucked
