Location: Central Valley. California? So you're a legal medical grower I assume.im have been dowin 9,000 watts around in a 3 bedroom house for years. harvest after harvest. never a problem
true,.....the elec companies dunno if your legal
inline fan connected to the light...So decided to throw the mh light on them and within an hour I felt like the closet with the fan on medium and a/c on 75 was too hot. I put in a thermometer and it was over 91degrees!!! I hope I didn't fry my plant. I took the ballast out raised the light 6inches and opened the closet door. How the hell do I bring the temp down with closet door closed?
I wouldn't sweat it a bit. The power company is mandated by new energy conservation laws to "aid" their customers in conserving electricity. They don't really want you to use less power, any more than Texaco wants you to drive a Hybrid. They send the letters to be compliant. "Look, we tried". You could write them back, explaining to them how much power it takes to be a successful Big Game Hunter. There probably is no reason to worry, but every month for the past 4 months I get a letter from the energy company stating that I am using more electricity than my neighbors. I live alone in a moderate sized home, I have 2.5 refrigerators, 1 large freezer, dish washer, washer and dryer, etc. I am using CFLs for my nursery about 18 (42 watts) and in the flowering room 3 (400 watt CMH). Whoa...
I think about it but it hasn't stopped me from growing. I did go down to 1 (400 watt CMH) for a few weeks because I only had 6 plants in the flowering room - (9 plants is ideal, capacity is 12). Like many of you stated, as long as I pay my bill there shouldn't be a problem. I think I have enough electrical appliances to back up my usage. I also have the electrical outlet in my garage that can run a welding machine. Still...I think about it. I'm counting on what you guys say about not fretting over the high usage. I also feel guilty for using so much because I try to be environmentally friendly. Using that much electricity is not environmentally friendly, and I am guilty as sin for abuse.
I'm with ya. 19 out of my 20 ballasts are digital. I just kept one mag from previous grows. I really do like the sound. We also are running tests to see if digital ballasts burn through bulbs faster than mags. You can use LED and HID together, I'm not sure if the LED would really help though. Never hurts I suppose. Electric ballast I say, then you can run MH and HPS. I'm not completely sure you can do that with a mag ballast.
Agreed. Pay your bills and the electric company won't ever have a reason to contact the authorities.pay your bill on time allways and never sell anything out of your house and you will be str8
Well a 9000W grow is well over the legal medical limit so it wouldn't matter.Location: Central Valley. California? So you're a legal medical grower I assume.
as legal as i can get my man. seems like everything I do from the min I wake up is illegal. even driving a car lolLocation: Central Valley. California? So you're a legal medical grower I assume.
Wow this thread still going lol
If you were paying attention you would realize it stopped being about power a few pages ago and was about LED vs HID... Reading does wonders
Dude, all they are trying to do is make sure there isn't a short somewhere. They lose money if they can't charge you. They also get federal subsidies for helping you get more energy efficient. I can assure you that the power company doesn't give a rats ass if you use more power as long as you cough up the cash every month on time.If you're getting a letter from the power company telling you that you are using more power than your neighbors, that to me is enough to take it down a notch. It's obvious they are watching your power, (usually they don't)
umm thats uncalled for man, no need to be so serius! If you were paying attention you would realize it stopped being about power a few pages ago and was about LED vs HID... Reading does wonders
