How much led wattage for 4” tent

Hey guy so I’m getting cool grows 4 feet grow tent and I should mention I’m a newbie. I’m looking for maximum yeild, I’m planning on having 5 smart pots in there each with one plant each.

How much led wattage is my maximum to not burn my plants? I’m getting lights with the Veg/bloom switch. But curious what’s too much wattage? Is 2000w too much? How about 1200w? I’ve heard I should stick with 600w.

cheers

You want to know the REAL watts, not the fake 2000, 1000 or whatever other fake number they use.

If it's a high quality white LED then 35 watts per square foot in flower is a good place to be.

If it's a blurple then you will need more like 45 - 50 watts per square foot in flower (may as well run HPS).

Show us any light you are thinking of buying so we can guide you.

You get what you pay for with LED. Some good lights are HLG (not HGL), Timber, Gavita, Lumatek... There are others but the good ones aren't cheap.

Make sure you actually figure the wattage drawn and not what’s advertised because a lot led manufacturers don’t list actual wattage except for in the fine print.

Avoid lights that advertise some number like 1000 or 2000 watts but only actually draw much less wattage. Thats a huge red flag there.

Around 50 watts square foot is ideal. So 800 or so watts would be good range.
That would be for a crappy blurple. There is no reason to switch to LED if you are gonna have to draw HPS like watts.

Good LED's like the HLG 650r will perform exceptionally with less than 30 watts per square foot in flower. Covering a 5x5 area with only 630 watts! Can't do that with a blurple.

If I was buying a LED light right now the HLG 650r would be on the top of my list. https://horticulturelightinggroup.com/products/hlg-650r

If you are on a budget then I suggest looking into running HPS or CMH, and saving up for a good LED. Otherwise you won't know what you are missing.

HPS will out perform a blurple watt for watt. So will a CMH.

I'm currently running two lights a 600w with 110 true watts and a 1200w with 220 true watts and that seems to be doing pretty well in a 2x2. So yea what @420drummer said is a good range if you want the most yield

Am I reading you right, 330 true watts in a 2x2 tent? Thats 82.5 watts per square foot...

yea from what my lights say it should be about that. i was told that should be more than enough lighting why? is that like too much or something
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TP2MQVK/ref=twister_B07SL91V9X?_encoding=UTF8&th=1 this is the light i have with a 600w of the same one
I am just saying thats a LOT of wattage for that space. With HPS we wouldn't see more than say 60 - 62 watts per square foot on the high end with CO2 and you are at 80+ watts per sqft with LED?

I am running 70w per square foot in a 3 x 3 ...and thats gnarly...but even in a 4 x 4 id be wanting no less than 60w per square foot.. kinda depends on what format of lighting you plan to use...I think you can get a way with higher wattage with LED (real watts..not chinese guestimates)... purely because they are easier to cool and once in the setup run cooler when the extraction fan filter is on....HID has hardcore heat issues which can hinder the amount of light you can put in....I am not pro LED,HID etc...have used both...both with great results and my preference is LED COBS even more so in summer when temps can be an issue...but if you were to go HID id go for a dual spec 600w in a 4 x 4... Hope that helps..? - STELTHY :leaf:
