How much light do you really need?

In all seriousness, I seem to recall "back in the day" 20w per square foot the bare minimum for getting some bud and 45w for tighter buds. The higher the wattage per square the tighter the buds. Up to a point of diminishing returns which was like 200w per square... That was a long time ago I read that and I am not sure exactly where I read it.

Totally off, you never want to get close to 100w ft2
I would say the max is 62.5 watts ft2, based on a 1kw de HPS covering a 4ft x 4ft
you could try a 1kw HPS in a 3ft x 3ft(111w per ft2) but would not advise this, your buds would be white(bleached to fuck).

I use a 1,000 watt HPS in a 4x4 tent and it feels just right. Any less and the buds don’t feel as tight, any more and temperature and air flow becomes an issue. 62.5 per sqft seems like a good sweet spot. Some Critical Sour Diesel I’m growing right now for plant tax:

1kw in a 4ft x 4ft is ok, I think you have too much light for your plants, your leaves are cupping because of the heat or light, any pictures of the canopy with the HPS light off?

1000w HPS is ideal for 4x4 or 5x5 footprints and will give you them donkey dix.
