no he's talking about adding half gallon, gallon jugs of nutes to the SOIL....... is the question i see......

Well I am a little confused about the question here so I will just answer both. If your asking about adding your own nutrients and making your own soil I would just go buy a bag of Foxfarm Ocean Forest and do it that way. When making your own soil you will run into a lot of unexpected problems with the appropriate amounts of this and that as well as needing to keep your soil ph balanced.

When adding nutrients with each watering you should be using minimal amounts mixed with ph'd water and used following the particular brands usage instructions.

Follow the guidelines for mixing your nutrients with water. When you administer the nutrient/water mixture, give the plants 1 quart mixture per 1 gallon of soil. 2 gallon pots=2 quarts mixture, etc.

isnt runoff a pain? that will throw the amount you gave off as it drips right out the bottom. i go for soakage let it drain right and then dry

Yes, runoff sucks. I've started watering my plants in the bathtub so runoff isn't really an issue anymore.

If you water slowly and have nice absorbing soil you're good. I personally like to water by weight...if one pot isn't quite as heavy as another pot then I'll give it more water until it feels similar.
