so no need to have an exact amount of time between watering, just when I see the ground drying up

Mine are in the ground so no pot to lift but I just do the finger test. Finger in the soil, if it's dry a finger depth down I water. Usually every 2 or 3 days when they're small, more often as they get bigger, and also dependant on weather and temp. But everybody's setup will vary.
Soil but I heard live soil is the way to go

Imo, it is, but watering a living soil is different than watering with nutes. I do 5% water to soil volume when they're small, working up to 10% as they get bigger. When watering with nutes, water to 10-20% runoff as previously suggested.

Then you want to water slowly, water whenever you feel the first inch or so of the soil is getting dry, or when your plant leaves are begging to look droopy. Water slowly, and try to avoid runoff as much as possible.
As reference I have a 10 gal pot, and I water it every 3-4 days (now that its in flower it has been every 2-3 days). I have a 2 Liter sprayer, I spray like 500 ml, then top and wait a little, then another 500 liters, then stop and wait, and so on. My pot can take around 5 liters of water this way, sometimes I water a little more and I see a little runoff come out, then I stop completely. Always try keep the soil moist.

Amazing info! Thanks so so much. So on a 10 gal pot, I should spray 2L, 500 and wait till it sucks the water then another 500 and so on when in a VEG and flowering state yes? what about when they’re small, same practice ?

No need to measure how much you are giving the pot. If the pot is dry and light then it's time to water. Pour a little water in, wait a minute, pour a little more water in and wait a minute. Repeat until water comes out the bottom of the pot. Now you're done giving it water until the pot is dry and light again.
Same practice when they are small unless they are tiny plants in a large pot. Seedlings require much less water and it's a little harder to water them in huge pots. That's why I always suggest starting all plants in small containers.

I don't measure i flood tables let it sit for most of the day then drain. Repeat as necessary.
