How Much Water Should Be Used?

So one of my plants is 2 days old now. It is currently in an 8 inch pot using Fox Farms Ocean Forest soil. When I transplant this and other plants, they'll all be going into 5 white gallon buckets. My Question is, how much water should be used per watering with an 8 inch pot without under / over watering it? How Much should be used for a 5 gallon bucket?

I'm going to be getting a pH meter ASAP, but I know this won't tell me how much water would be good enough for whichever size pots I am using. Any help is much appreciated!

As long as you let the soil dry out between waterings you should be fine. To start out, stick your finger a few inches into the dirt and if it's dry then water it. After a while you should just be able to lift the pot and feel the weight.
