How much wattage of HID lighting do i need?

Hey everybody, I am an amateur grower and i have two sproutlings that are currently under a 27 watt fluorescent light ( which i know is not NEARLY enough but they are still very little so i am not too worried) and i am going to soon upgrade to an HID (metal halide) lighting setup, and i was wondering how much wattage would be required for my two plants. Any information would help me greatly.

You HAVE to have a ballast that is compatible with BOTH hps and mh in order to run both bulbs. The ballast will specify if it is compatible for both. Even though it may "work" with an incompatible ballast you run a great risk of fire.

No you don't. There are conversion bulbs so you can run hps in Mh and Mh in hps...
