If that's the case, I use one ounce of good bud per one pound of butter. I decarb it first, then cook the butter in the crock pot for about four hours. Then I cool in the fridge in a flat pyrex bowl, and cut it up after that.

So it depends on how much butter you're going to use, but 1 ounce per pound of butter is a good baseline to do your math off of.

You could try this for a small scale experiment and not waste a bunch of quality buds.

I love making hot drinks with MJ to put me to sleep. The effects come on nice and slow and the longer you decarb the more sleepy it should make you depending on the strain. I only heavy indica.

Grind up enough bud to fill 1 TEASPOON. This is about 1 gram by my estimates. Think about how much weed you would smoke to get high. 1 teaspoon divided by 4 8 or 16 would get most people high. Use this as your general guidline to how many ounces of the milk you will want to ingest.

To decarb. place on tinfoil and wrap loosely. Bake in oven at 250 degrees F for about 20-30 minutes. (This will stink up the house a bit). Bud will be very dry an crumbly when it's done. The longer you decarb the more sleepy the potion may make you.

Next, in a double boiler heat 4 cups of WHOLE milk or high fat milk substitute. I like the highest fat coconut milk drink I can find or whole milk. Almond and soy milk don't seem to have enough fat. Check the labels. Add your decarbed bud. Let it brew on low for 30 minutes. You don't want it to boil, but it should be pretty hot. When you think it's done just pour the liquid through a coffee filter or strainer to remove the leftover vegetation.

Now you have 1 gram or Teaspoon of bud dissolved in 32 ounces of liquid.

As for dosage, it's up to you. I find that 4 oz of the milk added to my favorite beverage does the trick. so, mathematically speaking you would be ingesting 1/8 of a gram by consuming 4 oz of the milk. Just add 4 oz to your favorite hot drink and put the rest in the refrigerator for another day. It will keep for quite a while depending on the liquid you used. The coconut milk beverage will sit in my refrigerator for up to 30 days and not spoil at all.

There is one issue. I have made this mistake. If you add butter to the milk thinking you will get better absorption of the THC you will, but the butter floats to the top and on your first serving you get wayyy over medicated. I traveled to another dimension that time :)

This recipe works well and I enjoy it. It just depends on your goals. Remember that you can always eat more, but you can't eat less.

Once you get your dosage and recipe dialed in this is also really nice because you will be able to accurately measure how much MJ you are consuming. It takes the mystery out of it which is typically the problem with edibles.

Great post, the only part that made me sad was when you said "1 teaspoon divided by 4 8 or 16 would get most people high". I was like "Awwww man I bet an ounce lasts him FOREVER!!"

HAHAHAHA.. I have zero tolerance for MJ :) Since it's this persons first time I think they should start out light. This is just a good way to get consistent dosage. More bud can be used. Yea, an ounce is a lot of weed for me. I gave away a few z's over the past month.

Correct dosage is CRUCIAL. It's the difference between having a good time, and being uncomfortably launched into space on a mean green cannabis rocket ride from hell you can't escape from.

If it only takes you a single bowl to get high, then I'd recommend dividing up your edible / beverage so that you only eat about a bowls worth of ganja, and then wait and see what happens. It usually takes a good 30 to 40 minutes before it kicks in, but if you do it slowly and monitor your dosage rate, you should be able to find out exactly how much you can eat to get you where you need to be.

Failure to properly manage your dosage rate can lead to a very ......uncomfortable experience.

Should that happen, just remember that it WON'T kill you, even though it may seem like it, so do your best to relax, lie down, and wait it out. You'll pull through in an hour or two, and then you'll start to feel more "normal" again.

I would also just like to add that for some people (like me), edible cannabis can take as long as 3-4 hours to start kicking in if you have a slow metabolism. Also, if you do wind up being way too high, eating regular food, and sugar in particular, can help bring you down quicker (Also useful if you want to stay high for as long as possible, avoid those snickers bars). Also, some people claim that large doses of vitamin c will bring you down (Probably a conclusion drawn from the statistics that say there is a slightly higher than average incidence of vitamin c deficiency in heavy pot smokers). Personally I feel it is just placebo, but sometimes, especially during a bad trip, a good placebo is just the thing you need, so chowing down on some oranges or drinking an emergen-c may help.

I concur. Grind up the weed and look at it and ask yourself, how much of this weed would I normally smoke to get medicated. Section it out into doses if you need to. That's a good starting point. There will be differences though because of decarb rate, metabolism, absorption etc... I'd guess that in general you would consume more Cannabinoids by smoking, but best to err on the side of caution.

I'd like to hear from the OP to see if they have experimented yet.
