Im going to start my first grow in about a month. Ill be growing in a closet thats about 9'x4x7 (length, width, height). I know this is very broad question but i just want a rough estimate on how much i could possibly yield giving that i do everything right. Im planning on growing in soil with a 600w HPS/MH. Again I'm aware that theres many factors that could play into the final amount that i yield like the genetics of the plant, proper nutrition, proper watering, ext. Also what strand would you experienced growers recommend that yields a good amount and is "forgiving" if i don't do it perfectly. again it will be my first time. any advice or information will be highly appreciated. (Im still going through all the stickys) thanks everyone!

quite difficult to answer but imho try white widow/white rhino, i found them straight forward with a good yield using 600hps. My first attempt after much reading on this site yeilded 18oz from four girls, and my last time i yielded 16oz from two nemesis girls, i was over the moon although i used supplimentry 300w red spectrum cfl.. good luck and dont forget knowledge is power, read this site well, thats all i did..
i read that white widow was fairly easy. i think im going to go with that. how many plants do you think i could pull off in the amount of space that i have

imho, i would put 6 girls in there, enough space for a good veg time then(better yield), and not too congested. maybe think about more light..
you thinking 1000?
1000W watt would be sweet for that space. need some place to vent the air though. random guess: probably 10-15ounces. 6-8 plants sounds about right.
if you do it all right(air vented, proper temps, co2, and proper nutrient schedule for the plant), 1gram per watt or slightly more is achievable (you can find that in lost of threads). 600grams!
shooting for 0.5/watt is a good goal.

i have no experience with 1000w to be honest, much much hotter by all accounts incuring extra issues, i went for 600hps plus red spec cfl as extra. They can be hung without reflecter inbetween girl and dont add too much more heat, and cheaper on electricity me thinks..

10-15 from 6-8 doesnt sound very successful to me, i would expect more with optimum conditions.. imho
i use 600's all the time, and my 1000W during the dead of winter. 600's do give off less heat. 1000W produces better buds and more, mostly due to light penetration. 600W are the best lumen output for wattage. 600 will do more then fine. best thing you can do is just get started. sooner the better.

of course. my original mantra was, if i can grow a spliff to smoke i should be happy, if i grow a spliff good enough to share i should be over the moon, with the help of this site you should be on the way to mars..
i checked out different brands and what not...and i get confused. is a hps bulb from one brand different from an hps bulb from another? whats the difference in cool bulb, air cool, cool reflector.
hps is hps. the more expensive bulbs will make a difference, but I wouldn't buy them unless you can spare the $$$ (there are other issues to address first, the cheapest hps bulb works well from htg).
Cool tube = a tube, the light fits in, that you can blow air through to vent.
Cool reflector = a glass pane, over the light to blow air through to vent.
The idea behind these is to help contain the heat in an area you can exhaust to a different area. (using fan and venting)
if you get a reflector. it will fit all hps/mh bulbs. there difference is the systems is the ballast,(your ballast must match the bulb, or get a switchable(recommended!).
