Hello everyone,

A few questions for the experienced, as this is my first time.

1- When is the best t ime to harvest? Cloudy or Amber ... While getting the most yield.

2- Am I ready for harvest, if not, how long do you reckon based on the pics below? Also, will there be an increase in yield, as it does not look as big as I though (keep in mind, I'm a first timer)

P.s. Can anyone define the strain? Its an indica looking plant, short and bushy. A friend of mine got me 3 strains

thanks for your time

You cannot expect a case of having your cake and eating it too, you need to decide what is your highest priority and what you like the most and then accept all that goes with it.

When it comes to when is the proper time to harvest that will depend totally on your specific likes and dislikes.

Milky white trichomes = more head high/less couch-lock/ very slightly lower overall yield.

Amber trichomes = more couch-lock/less head high/slightly more moderate - average yield.

Brown trichomes = compost/highest yield.

Which do you prefer? Which best fits your personal taste?

You have to decide for yourself when is the very best time for you to harvest your crop and not rely on anyone else’s opinion or likes or dislikes or tastes and you can only do that by going by the color of the trichomes and then accepting whatever else that goes with it, like overall yield, which will not vary greatly because most strains once the trichomes turn milky will not need much more time to then turn to a combination of milky/amber or amber in color and the difference in time will not give you all that much more of a yield.

The difference can be just a day or just a couple days in some strains so to me once you reach the trichome color that will give you what you prefer I see no reason to hold out any longer in hopes of a few more grams of something that you will not like as much.

See the above.

If you want or need to know what strain your friend gave you the best and easiest thing to do is to ask your friend what they gave you.

Guessing what strain a plant may be going by a few pictures is more difficult than to predict the next meteor strike date and location for the planet since there are so very many known strains to pick from and so many more that have been created by hobby/basement breeders that are total unknowns to most.

Not to be a major wise-ass but you might as well have just asked us to tell you what you are presently thinking. People would have roughly an equal chance to be correct as to pick what strain you are growing by looking at a few pictures.

^^lol

Either way you need to wait until the head of the trichs are fully formed. Looks like most of those heads are still makin their way to the top

so if you go past ur amber trichomes then ur plant aint worth sh1t???????
i dont beleive i have ever heard anyone that has harvested to late. most harvest too early. my last grow was bagseed and it took forever to start getting a few amber trichs. depending on the strain is what will determine the window of harvest. sativas have a longer window than an indica.
at some point you should get a second growth spurt from your buds. then after that start looking at trichs. of course i look at the trichs long before that, just to watch them mature and ripen.
if you have more seeds of the same strain, you can clip some buds at different stages of the trichs and dry and cure properly and label everything. then decide what you like and when you grow them again you will know when to harvest.
i keep close eye on the trichs, but a new grower will harvest early. so i would say to noobs that when you think its ready wait 2 weeks.
that last 2 weeks is when it will pack on the weight and the snow covering and the flavor will be much better especially with a proper cure.

i take off the fan leaves and do some trimming. i hang dry in a dark room untill they feel dry on outside but still moist on inside. i put in paper bags about 1/4 full and close it up. i flip it a couple of times a day. usually only 1 or 2 days in the paper bag. then it goes in air tight jars for the cure. burp and flip it around a couple of times a day. you want about 10% moisture left in the buds when it goes into jars. within a day the buds will even out in moisture. if they are too moist they can get moldy. if too moist put it back in paper bags for a day, then back into jars. within 2 or 3 weeks you should have a good cure. after about the first week you can go to burping the jars once a day. after they are dried and cured you dont have to burp as often and can be stored for quite awhile if kept in a cool dark place.
as far as how long it dries and stays in bags just depends on the environment its drying in.
too moist you get mold
too dry you wont get a proper cure.
once they go in jars the hay or grass smell will slowly go away and the dankness will start to come out.

in addition to what this guy said you can harvest at multiple times,

ex. my white widow had some under-developed buds below the main tops, i harvested them about 5 days after the main tops, in your case just take some at each stage of trichome development and see what you find best.

My friend got me 3 strains which he forgot the names of. It's a toss between a white widow, white/silver russian? and Super silver haze which I quickly identified as it is a 2 metre long sativa (indoor lol)

Both plants were flowered at the same time. The indica has developed most of it's buds (if not all ---) the Sativa is yet to develop one single bud!!!!!!!

I'll post some better quality pics soon ... IM DRAINED OUTTA ENERGY!!

Thanks for the help everyone. Loved the curing portion.

Emphasis on he forgot.

P.s. he says its all of the above three confirmed.
but I have no idea which indica it is. White widow or silver/russian widow (he forgot the color)

New pics as promised.

A few questions for you guys. This is fairly intense :P

There is major yellowing going on with the big fan leaves(I'm talking about the Indica), which are spread along the main stem. With a bit less obviousness, on the smaller leaves too. i have cut off a few leaves (not in a quantity that harms the plant.... One totally dead fan leaf and a few small ones). 1- Is this normal in the flowering stage? As I read that this is a normal part of the process in the flowering stage, true?

2 - Is it ok that I cut the dead leaves off? or leave nature to take it's course and gravity plays its part in bringing them to the floor?

Plant is, I'm ashamed to say, a little droopy. I have not over watered. I have excellent drainage and only water when the pot feels light and the top 2 inches are bone dry. I have never checked the PH and when ever I faced a problem, twice to be exact, I have flushed them with distilled ph 7 water completely with excellent results, until now in the case of the Indica. The grow is completely organic with the meals (blood/bone) only. I used AN IGNA-JCE GRO & BLOOM a few times for the little supplements the plants need. I also use epsom salt (rarely) and hydrogen peroxide (pharmaceutical-base).

1- Is it going to make it?
2- If so, what should I do, I tend to not rush things and wait for nature to play its course.
3- Am i doing anything wrong besides checking for PH?

Hey just saw your post. Here is my opinion from my experience...

1) I have had a couple big fan leaves do the same thing for no reason as well and it doesn't seem to effect the plant at all.
2)Cut the dead leaves off because they are only wasting energy that could be spend on growing some buds.
3)You should water the plant as soon as the top of the soil starts to dry out ( usually every couple days ) your plant needs more water now then ever because of its size and growth. The leaves should perk up in a couple hours if it is the watering.

Hopes this helps!

I disagree with this guy. No offence bro but that can cause over watering
I think you are watering the right way. Maybe just a little more so the leave dont droop before you water them. I have a plant that does droop if I dont water it right when its dry. It does stand back up a few hours after watering

The fan leaves do die in flowering. It starts mid to late flowering, its basically draining all the stored nutes out of the fan leaves for bud production. All of them will do it, some worse then others. No worries
When they look like they are pretty much dead I just give them a light tugg and the leaf will come right off nice and clean. I dont cut fan leaves off for the most part. If the plants done with them then they will come off really easy.
There are a few schools of thought on the fan leaves though so you will hear a few different things. Everyone has their opinions

Well thanks to the 2 previous posters. I do not think I over-watered them, if anything, I think I under-watered them. Anywho, problem has been taken care of after watering, and as Stoney Jake pointed out, took a few hours.

Now the question is, It's been 4-5 weeks since I induced flowering, when will the friggin Sativa show bud!!! Not one single bud in 5 weeks! Signs are there, new growth (where bud should form) has grown. Still no bud!!!

Any different techniques in dealing with sativas and indicas?

some sativas take a long time to show. Have you seen pre flowers?....if you know its a female..I would go ahead and bump up its phosphorus intake to go ahead and encourage that girt to start showing her goods
