Okay here it goes to all you WA med patients here are some ways to not get arrested with your grow. Despite what you think, you are not legally growing weed. Cops can and will arrest you if they want. Even if your within your limits. So how do you not get arrested? Simple.
Its all about how your grow is perceived. In WA your allowed 15 plants no matter the stage of growth. That means you can have 15 plants ranging from seedlings to palm trees. So your gonna grow some Palm Trees right? Think again.
They also established that a "60 day supply" is 24 ounces. If you are over your limits you could choose to donate some to your local dispensary or to another med patient. But the rule is 24 ounces.
If cops come in to look at your grow, they are looking at how much you are likely producing. This has nothing to do with number of plants. I would bet everything I have that a med grower producing 15 trees would get taken down faster than a med grower producing 50 plants in a sea of green style in something like a grow tent or closet. Why? because the guy growing 15 trees is clearly producing more medicine than 24 ounces where as the guy with a sea of green doenst appear to be producing that much. Dont get me wrong, ive seen SOGs that produce hefty amounts of green, but thats not what it LOOKS like.
I know, and you prob know some too, patients that have been arrested and had all their stuff seized despite being within their limits. Again, its all about what it looks like. If it looks like your operating a weed factory, your prob gonna get taken down. I personally know a med grower that was well within his limits but his plants were very high yielding, usually 3/4 of a pound per plant. Cops came and took a look at his grow and said have a nice day. A week later the drug unit came through and shut him down. Why? Because they can. Being a med patient is only a defense in court. Its up to the arresting officer on whether or not he wants to bring you in front of a judge. And even if that particular officer doesnt care, that doesnt mean the drug unit officer wont care. After all, its the drug unit officers job to bring in growers. He gets monthly bonuses for bringing in certain amounts of offenders. So if he wants to, he will bring you in. But it really isnt worth his time to bring in med patients who are producing only what they need to medicate.
This is bad news to all the medical cash croppers out there. I mean after all, you want to grow the biggest 15 plants you can right? Well just because you only have 15 doesnt mean you wont be taken down. My advice to you is to find other avenues of making money. OR at least only make a little bit of money. Ive run the numbers and one could hypothetically make around 2-3k a month with a small, under the radar grow op. But if your out there trying to pull in 20k a month, chances are your going to get taken out of the running, med patient or not.
WA just passed new laws about co-op gardens of up to 45 plants with at least 3 patients but no more than 10. I personally would never start one of these co-op gardens and if I did I would structure it around the original fifteen plants. Cops are not lawyers and they very rarely know the actual laws regarding mmj.
To all the med patients out there, make your grows LOOK small and you should stay out of jail. To all the cash croppers, there are many more ways of making money that are faster, easier, and legal. All your doing is flooding the market with product. Im all for growing for your own personal stash, but if you try to get rich from growing, Im willing to bet sooner or later your gonna find out what a jail cell looks like.
