I used to top plants, now I don't.

The reason given for topping plants... So they will have more branches.

Well, if you just bend the plants over you will have more branches.

The topmost growing tip of a plant produces a growth inhibiting hormone.
Pull that tip below the level of other tips and whoo.. branches grow like
magic.

This plant was never topped. It was merely planted sideways and pulled over with wire.

Yeah, its fun to top your plant but think about it. Do you think your plant actually likes that?
It no doubt hurts like hell and pisses your plant off. Do you think your plant is magically going
to produce more because you topped it? No, if it is a typical three foot closet plant you can
support 4 to 6 main branches. You have more than that, you get tiny buds. What you want is
density. A few big dense buds will weigh more than a bunch of tiny fluffy buds.

And my plants love being topped, they tell me it does not really hurt; I figure to them it's like pulling a hangnail
