how often should bulbs be changed out?

How often should double ended hps bulbs be changed out? I run gavitas and it's been awhile so I am curious if I should change them soon. I haven't really noticed any diminished light from them but that's just me and noticing consistent yields. What's the standard when it comes replacing double ended bulbs?

Suppliers would love to have you buy them as offen as possible, unfortunately results depend more on the grower then the lights you use ,but hang on ,there will be many opinions on this ,just like politics

It’s been two years since I changed them. Just curious because I don’t have a par meter to actually measure

Just my 2 cents... Every 6 months is ideal, but every year will do. It would be better to buy cheap bulbs more often than expensive ones less often.
Thanks for the insight, I think I’m going to try annually now. These bulbs do last a long time.

Bingo. :) Most manufacturers will list the recommended replacement intervals for their bulbs. Personally, I don't like to run more than 3 grows before I replace my bulbs. But I also tend to get very anal and overboard when it comes to maximizing light output.

I dont agree with this if your saying what I think your saying. The cheapo Chinese ipower bulbs dont even compare with a hortilux super hps or a other high end bulb. Even right out of the box the better bulbs yield better and higher quality ime. And the cheapo bulbs drop off fast.

I'd say its best to change em out around every 2-6 runs depending. I dont personally notice a differance until 6 runs but wouldnt run them longer.

You can look up the specs for the bulbs from the manufacturers site. HID bulbs have couple lumens settings one in the first 100 hours and after the 100 hours. Most of my customers change them ever 3-4 crops. DE bulbs like Philips 1000w DE Green guys are running them for couple of years on 100%.

if the ballast is crap, even the Philips bulb wont stay in good condition for long.
to run the proper bulb with the proper ballast, you can change the bulb every 9-12 months.
another option is everything cheap but change every turn.
