how often should you water?

The more i read on here the more confused i get, i see that growers only water once a week. i left my plants alone for half a day and they were dry as hell. Also when yall talk about feeding how do you do that, there has to be more to it than just pouring it in the soil. the stuff that i have is a organic phosphurous supplement "miracle gro", alaska brand fish fertilizer, and superthrive, "vitamins and hormones". what would yall suggest i do with em. I have five plants all in various stages but all above soil. once i figure out how move pictures from a camera to a computer ill put some pic up. thanks in advance for your help...

A lot of people tend to overwater when they start growing, myself included... Just because the top of the soil is dry, doesn't mean that the entire pot is dry... Stick your finger down into the soil a bit (maybe an inch or so).. If it feels moist, then you don't need to water... If it's completely dry an inch down into the soil, it's probably time to water...

Keep in mind that marijuana grows outdoors and in different areas may go days or even weeks without water.. It's better to underwater a bit than to overwater... You could cause the roots to rot, stunting the growth of the plant or even killing it..

As far as the nutrients and feeding, you want to look at the bottle for the recommended dosage.. Most people on here will suggest that you dilute anywhere from 1/2 to 1/8 strength.. Less is better the first time you feed.. If it calls for 1 teaspoon mixed per gallon of water, you're probably better off mixing 1/4 or 1/2 a teaspoon to 1 gallon of water.. Keep in mind you don't have to use the entire gallon if the plants are small... Although, if they are real small, it's probably best not to feed them at that time...

Just be careful when you do decide to feed.. Dilute to 1/2 or 1/4 strength.. Watch for signs of nute burn the days following the feeding.. Many will suggest you Feed, then just use straight water, feed, water, etc.... That's the schedule i'm going by atleast...

Good luck to ya' and happy growin'!!

There is no set, "water with this much on these days" answer. It depends on your medium, your temps, your container size, the age of your plants... For myself, I push at least half of my forefinger into the soil - if I feel moisture I wait. I also check the weight of the pot - heavier usually means still moist. Once I do water, I give enough that a little bit starts to leak out the bottom.

I agree with above poster on feeding. The only thing I would add, is do NOT begin feeding your plants until they reach at least three weeks of age. :peace:

water when needed... water ur plant, lift the pot and rember its weight.... then left it when its dry and rember that weight.. then u know when to do it

cool thanks to all of you, yall pretty much cleared that part for me... about the feeding, do i mix the 1/2 teaspoon with a gallon of water and use the same gallon for all the plants or do i use the whole mixture on each plant. probaly a real dumb question but id rather be safe than sorry,

Water until it starts to drain out the bottom of your container - probably won't be a whole gallon.

I feed mine once a week.:peace:
so what do i feed it, the alaska fish fert.. the superthrive... i dont know of anywhere around that sells exactly what i need for this purpose.. im pretty much stuck to lowes... what do you suggest? and for clarification, each plant untill the water seeps out the bottom correct.

Try searching google for local hydroponic stores near you... They will have everything you need.. soil, pots, nutes, lights, etc.... At some shops i've been to, they actually help you out quite a bit, just obviously don't mention you're growing MJ... Lol...

Considering your plants are not that old, 1 gallon of water is probably overkill for them.. You can probably use 1/2 the gallon and it will be enough for all the plants.. Just mix 1/2 teaspon, 1/4 teaspoon or whatever of the nutrient you're feeding into the gallon of water.. Just water the plants til water starts running out of the bottom, then stop... Keep in mind, you may have to pour some water onto the soil, let it seap down into the soil, and then pour some more before there is actually any run-off from the bottom of the pot..

Just make sure the pH of the water is within a reasonable range (6 to 7, 6.5 would be ideal)... If it's any higher than 7 or lower than 6, you're going to have a hard time keeping your plants alive.. Most tap water is going to have a pH above 7, so it's not really recommended.. Whether you use tap, bottled, distilled, whatever.. make sure you check the pH of it... I started growing indoors and was using straight tap water, only to find out the pH was 8.5... bad news...

Yep Superthrive can be given every watering, at a drop per gallon. Also you can get Grandma's Unsulphered Molassas from Wal-Mart - by the pancake syrup. Use that at one TBSP per gallon, every other watering. Lastly, I don't have a lot of choices locally for my nutes, so I use MG All Purpose Plant Food for veg, had pretty good luck with it - it's liquid, comes in a yellow bottle - you should be able to find it at Lowes. I give my vegging plants this once a week starting at three weeks old - half a teaspoon, and gradually working up to a full teaspoon. Hope this helps.:peace:

it seems complicated buy its not.

Im a new grower and I over-watered as well.

There are 3 things you can do to MAKE SURE you don't over water.

1. Buy a moisture meter 10$ from my hydro shop im sure its around the same everywhere else. Stick it in the soil if it reads red.. its time to water. But take multiple tests on dif parts of the pot to get an accurate reading.

2. If you stick your finger in the soil 2-3 inches and its even MOIST then you need to wait.

3. Get an idea for what your plants feel like RIGHT after a watering, then wait a week and get an idea for what they feel like right BEFORE a watering, theres like a 10 pound difference...lol.. seriously its night and day.. im to the point where I can tell just by picking up the pots when they need water.

ps: Remember UNDER-watered plants show almost the same signs as OVER-watered plants... and not watering enough is alot better then overwatering. You can always add water.

As far as feeding goes... I suggest you start with foxfarm as they have a very easy to read feeding schedule.

Just cut EVERYTHING it says directly in half

If it says use 1 table spoon, you use 1.5 TEAspoons. thats half a Tblspoon.

From now on, on my future grows I will not feed ANYTHING until after 2 - 3 weeks. Because foxfarm soil has alot.. ALOT of nutes in it that should last about a month.

Pretty simple stuff.. but really you just need to learn the strain your growing because every strain is different. Some strains can take full strength some can only take 1/4th.. ect ect.

GL!

i think these would need 1/4 of anything, there pretty sensitive, they didnt seem to like the superthrive much either. if the food source for the plant is in soil, would i empty the pot and replace or would i just dump a little and mix.
