How old must a plant grown from seed be to take a cutting?

I may have posted this before but can't remember so i'll ask again. How old does a plant grown from seed have to be before i can take a cutting?
Now,after reading up in various books some say that there's no particular moment in time to take a cutting but it's better to take from a plant that has 8 nodes or over.My Big Buddha Cheese girls are 4 weeks old and are ten nodes high now, approx 1 1/2 feet. Now I know usually that you take cuttings from lower nodes because they contain more rooting hormones but is this the same on a plant a few weeks old grown from seed?I read somewhere that cuttings must be taken above the eighth node which will make it near the top of the plant or have i got that totally wrong?

Im glad im first! YAY. Heres how I do it, I cut the growing tip off the top when I have 4 sets of leaves. This causes all 8 of the growth nodes to grow up. When those get 3 sets of leaves I snip the tip off of those too. When all the nodes spring upward thats when I take clones. I find that the plants has enough nodes left over to where another week in veg its ready to flower. Total time 4weeks from sprouting maybe longer, depends on the strain.

Most peeps like to take their clones from the bottom, that way, air will flow up, and lower branches yield less than top branches.
I like to take my clones from bottom branches, branches that have two [I prefer three] sets of equal opposite nodes.
I usually wait till about 6 weeks, and as a matter of fact, I am going to clone 5 plants this morn... All from the bottom sets of branches...
Mark the clones, take one from upper, and lower, and see which one works for you...
It's all trial and error, until you find what works best for you....
Good luck....

I have only one thing to add, your idea is also great, but the way I described ( I should have specified ) is best for a grower like me that has very little room for growth. I grow 1X1 plants, sometimes a little larger, so the air flow isnt an issue.
