Hey,so i have a space confinement on my current grow of about 3ft of interal height...i was told to keep my plant in veg till it grows to the size of the cabinet then swap to flower...but im concerned even after swapping to flower the plant will still grow in height? does anyone have experience? do plants grow alot during flowering?

going from a 18/6 to a 12/12

Yeah they grow during flower bro. I'd leave at least 1/3 of your space available for growth during flowering.

Depending on strain it can be tough. I don't do micro but I see some strains stretch 2 ft in 2 weeks. I bend etc. to control them.

ok then my next question...when should i swap to flower to keep my plants short?
Unless you know the strain your growing (if u do it will have a stretch % recommendation) its a guess.

You can use scrogging to help keep things under control.

Typical end result with some practice.

I used a screenshot cause there are way too many pics in my phone and it puts it at the end.

One more pick of in between stage. Sorry all different plants. I run perpetual and have never documented the life of just one.

I was suggesting he should try it, it might knock some sense into him...

typing "cannabis growth in flower"

gave me

2.) Make sure indoor grow lights don't get too hot/too close

During the first month of the flowering stage, many cannabis plants go through a dramatic upward growth known as "the stretch." Yet for some strains, the plants may continue to grow taller for most of her life, even after the initial flowering stretch.

Indoors, it's common for plants to be inching closer and closer towards grow lights without the grower realizing it. Always keep a barrier of space between your plants and your lights!

took... ten seconds to find? Less time than he spent typing this post ;-)

It is a worry for new growers though.
Im new to indoor (after 2 decades away from) and its something that is confusing and a worry in a small space. Lots of different contradictory info on how much room to leave due to diff strains etc.
If he is like me and is running an unknown strain then he is just voicing his concern and question..better hear than to his friends....

I too was "new" to indoor, certainly to setting it all p myself and to such a tight space (4ft height)... as I said, it took me less than ten seconds to find the general help that clearly said there was going to be big growth growth and references differences in strains, which would then lead me to looking up my strain... I think do it that way it took me about ten-20 minutes to get to this sage advice

where "space available" accounting for the pots, lights, "sweet spot" etc of course... ;-)

rather than the 9 hours it took him to get an answer (which probably included a number people clicking, reading, shaking their heads and deciding he's an idiot, which hopefully he's not)

You can never really know the stretch to expect. There are so many factors. Even potassium and nitrogen uptake and temps affect this. Expert gardeners have more control but still up to the genetic code of the plant mostly.

I used to flower at 12" or shorter but ended up with little 2 oz plants. Sometimes only 1. With the method I posted I average 15" tall in 30 day veg or so and even bent all plants branches end up over 2 feet tall.

Training is key indoor. Short plants get better light penetration with even less watts and are usually more potent for the same reason. Took 2 years to be confident at it. I can grow any plant in there now. I may try a real pure sativa soon.

Thank you. It took a lot of trial an error but grown to about 15" in veg in 4-5 weeks. And every plant has to be 30" or under in my room. This is bent height for sativa heavy hybrids. They would be 4 to 6 feet if not bent early in flower. And the buds get frosty all the way to the bottom.

So don't think stretch 2x the size is always enough. Mine go 3 to 4x or just keep growing. Depends on genetics and light and feeding too.

You can also top them or train in veg. But I get more this way.
