How to best mask smell

I was curious how best to mask the smell of 2 small plants that will soon enter flowering. I am on a tight budget and so far i have 4 slow release air fresheners but am worried once they enter the most odorous stage of growth that i may need something stronger. Now i know about the DIY carbon filters but am not able to instal them into the grow area and so i was curious if installing 1-2 electric air fresheners would be able to keep the smell in check. the grow is in a small closet and inside a garbage can grow box. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. note i live in a apartment building so that the main concern.

covering the smell isn't a very effective method.... you need a carbon filter.. a quiet carbon filter...

I've tried many methods... the cost it takes to cover the smell will be more than the carbon filter... you would need like 200 bucks in air fresheners and such... and they are gone after a grow or 2... the carbon filter should last you a year.

filtering the air isn't as complex as you'd think - (assuming you have a grow space with negative air pressure).
If you don't, that's not so hard either. provide some information and we can work with that.

For passive filtering I'd use odor absorbing gels like "ona gel"

i use a carbon filter in the grow room and i have fabreeze plug ins by the front and back doors and in the living room.
cops love the old - i smelled marijuana and entered the home trick. probable cause is a bitch.

i'm legal now but i still do it out of habit and i don't need the UPS guy smelling my vaped bud.

and i like the hawaiian breeze smell. :)

i used to have 2 automatic ozium dispensers but all of a sudden there was a shortage of ozium canisters so i switched to fabreeze. much nicer smell for sure. :leaf:

My buddy uses an ionizer, no smell what so ever. He spent some good money on it.

Ona gels/blocks do not release toxic anything into the air it's an eco friendly product.

Don't tell him that. One plant can easily stink up 1200 square feet. It also gets worse when you trim.
my first grow, 2 plants, super skunk by g13 labs.. no filter at the time.. what i living nightmare that was.. smelled like 2 skunks were having raw butt sex in my crib for months on end.. it was god awful.. so couldn't wait for that grow to be done..
only good part was it didn't smell like weed, just straight up skunks..

so yeah, one or two plants can stink to high heaven, depending on the strain of course.. :(

ok i bought a honeywell true hepa allergen air filter system and a carbon filter add on sleeve for the filter inside of it should this do the trick or would i be better off with one that ionizes to remove odor but dosent have a carbon filter add on?

It will help for sure. this with a plug in air purifier like fabreeze and I suppose if it's not some very fragrant strain it'll work well.
I say stay with this for now, if you feel that this is not sufficient have a plan ready to reduce the smell in one day. That's what I would've done.

for the odor to be completely gone, you'll need all of the air coming out of the grow place to pass through carbon. that means negative air pressure inside the grow space so that air doesn't leak from random openings.

I started on 3 plants and brought a cheap 50 quid carbon filter and in line fan off eBay. Had no smell problems and lasted a year or so

Spray lots of deodorant *dangles rod*

Just kidding, there's a gel around that you can use, or you can use a carbon filter etc. There are many ways in all honesty.
