how to build walls

well maybe i should be in a construction forum for this, but i have a loft and id like th make a 8x6 foot corner sealed with walls, or something light proof, i will have a few holes with fans for ventilation etc, its important that whatever i build out of is light proof, not too expensive and fairly easy as im not too much of a builder!

any suggestions?

ps the easier the better, and i guess i would need some type of door, or something to get in and out from!

Sounds like you need some sort of stealth box.

simple just lay down a 2x4 four on the floor to the size room you want then lay another 2x4 ontop of those. Those are your top and bottom plates. Now at the wall and at each corner nail a 2x4 to these plates one set ontop the second on botom then raise them up and nail the corner together and a few nails into the bottom plate into the floor. Then get panda film which is black on 1 side white on the other and staple around the frame white facing inside the room..Now you will need a sticky backed zipper most hardware store or walmart have them form 8-$11 peel the sticky off the back and find where you want your door stick it to the plastic and press on..Then open the zipper slide a razor blade down the plastic between the zipper teeth and you now have a full 8 foot door opening and room... so thats what 8-12 2x4s plastic staples and the zipper.Add some nails and thats your list takes about an hour to start til finish...FilthyFletch

Depends on how "permanent" of a setup he needs. If just temporary and short term drywall and 2x4's may be more work than its worth. Plus the expense, if your gonna do it right.

What kind of wall? Like a real 2x4 stud wall with insulation? Just something vertical to trap light? Need more info.

Can always build a pvc room with panda film. Its a little more expensive but is completely removable quick.Or foam sheets work well the 4x8 1 inch foam sheet used for building. They cost anywhere from $4-#14 a sheet depending on brand thickness and poly make up.

i was hoping to make it fairly permanent, the most important thing to me is that its lightproof, i dont really need to worry about stealth, but id like it to look clean from the outside, and not fall apart on me.

i guess drywall is my best bet, ill try and do some more research into building walls, and im not sure i understood how you said to make the door?

Something thats even more easier is stuff called R Matt found at lowes, its some sort of insulation board that is a inch thick, and is pretty strong, cheap and requires no tools except a razor knife, comes in 8x3, i have a wall built out of it with a doorway cut into it, the door way has flap of white poly attached with velcro, and then aanother door made out of the the r matt attached with velcro too covering the poly flap, completly light proof, i have a 8x5 false wall made out of the stuff and metal foil tape, I even paited the outside of it white like my walls

Keep going. Interested in anybodys ideas here as well, as dividing rooms and building rooms never gets old. . fletch those were good istructions too on the 2x4 panda room, and the foam I wish I could find, the home depot even here doesnt have it. looked for it many times.

R board is the foam I said above. Its used for framing walls and for foundation isnsulation. The 3 inch stuff is used to build foundation forms and then filled with concrete.A basic 2x4 wall is simple you have 2 2x4s lay them about 8 feet apart ,measure how high from cieling to floor as this is need to make a nice fit.Now each 2x4 is 1 3/4 of an inch thick so you have 2 of thoses so deduct 3 1/2 icnhes from the height of the floor to cieling and that how long you cut your 2x4 studs. Now hook the end of the 2x4s you will use for your top and bottom plate and make a mark on every 16 inch.Thats called 16 on center.you will put a 2x4 at each one of these marks with the mark on the middle of the 2x4 this way any drywall or 4x8 sheet will break on each 2x4 so you can nail each edge to the 2 by 4s.Then you can use panda plastic or foam, or drywall to cover the walls.Nice and easy...FilthyFletch

All home depot have it as its an industry used product.Im in construction and never not seen it.Look by the insulation section that where it is always 1 aisle over from the concrete and siding aisle. Its also sold at lowes,Menards, some Ace hardwares stores and at 64 lumbers.seliegs or any home building supply store. It comes in 4x8 sheets or if you want to line a room with it there is the white 1/8 stuff that folds like an accordian for putting under siding. Its white and reflective and add sound deadening.
