How to collect rainwater??

Just wondering how you guys do it. Im growing in Ireland and we're supposed to be getting a heat wave (about time).

Im growing guerilla with 10 70l pots planted about a foot in the ground with the bottoms broke, so its impossible for me to bring enough water up if needed so i want to collect water in 100l black refuse bins.

How can i collect the water without it evaporating as ill obviously only need it after a few hot days?

Dig a big hole in the ground and line it with some good plastic so nothing leaks and the rain will fill the hole, and you can scoop buckets of water out of the resevoir. If your worried about it evaporationg, put a piece of plastic over top of it when your not using it. be creative, BTW Ireland is beautiful.

If you dont get any rain then your fucked lol unless you find a body of water close by you can "tote" in buckets to the grow show.

If i put plastic over it it cant collect water though and thats the whole point. Its a guerilla grow so i cant be going up everytime it rains to take a cover off and wait until it fills up.

There will be rain but i just want to make sure i have some collected incase i need it. Theres no near by water either

I was thinking of using a black bin wit something semi permeable over it, like neoprene, or a screen thats found on like a bubble bag. I know it would take longer for the barrel to fill but i think it may slow down/reduce evaporation.

Any other comments or suggestions welcomed

I use rain barrels, I have a couple around the house that the rain spouts go into covered with a screen so no bugs and stuff can get in. This is mostly for my outdoors gardens and such. It may work for you though. You can even get creative and put a hose on it for easy filling of the buckets. You would have to place in an open area to collect enough rain for you though. Good luck. :)

I've got a lot of ideas for this, but can't say I've ever needed to do it.

What kind of terrain are we talking about?

If the ground slopes, there are endless possibilities.

Its in a clearing by some field. All thats growing there is low level bushes which ive cleared back, soil is a bit clay'ee and full of rocks.
Its quite flat though and theres no slope.

Put a blue tarp over the hole and poke a small hole in the middle of the tarp, it will stop it from evaporating and still collect rain water.

A perfect solution.

If you dig a big hole and line it, and then center a large tarp over it with a small hole, you can lift the corners and have a pretty effective rain collector.

A 10' x 10' tarp would collect over 60 gallons from one inch of rain.
