How To Get MMJ Card/Doctor Recommendations

Hi there,

So, I've been doing my research, but I keep hearing things from friends who are patients and different information keeps getting passed around to me. I am honestly, super confused about this.

1. My friends say that you won't be able to get a corporate job if you have a MMJ card. Is this true? Is it good for only the year that you have the MMJ card or is it on your records for a good chunk of time? I'm young and just a kid (23, live and work with my parents, don't know what I want to do with my life, distracted, whatever) and potentially, through my job searching, that I may come across a corporate job and this would be quite the experience.

2. I have a legit reason for getting a MMJ card so I'm not really worried about getting rejected. What's the process like?

- Make an appointment..

- Bring all my medical records with me..

- Have the appointment...

- And then? What happens if the doctor agrees to me getting the ID card? Do I go to my County Department and request one and wait for the process? Or do the MMJ clinics/offices have the ability to make an ID card?

I really just want to be sure, entirely. I've been reading up on this for a couple of weeks now, on & off, and I've been about 51% sure that I want to jump up on this. If this, of course, doesn't ruin my life. :/

1. There is no way your corporate employer is going to know, it's just like your regular doctor they can't just start snooping through records.

The only way they are going to find out is if they drug test and you are not covered under any sort of employment law as this is only a recommendation.

2. Make an appointment with your local MMJ doctor, bring your records and funds for their fee. Most clinics are able to make a card, so I would recommended finding one that does, no need to go to any sort of county office.

im 80 min. east of San Diego there are no places here to get a marijuana license and i need one. Does anyone know the easiest way to go about getting a medical marijuana license in the San Diego area. Thanks

First off, you should have a legitimate reason to get a med card. Second, you should have money to pay for it. Third, that is it.

i have scoliosis dont know if i spelled it right is this a gurantee for getting a card?

Technically, nothing is a "guarantee" for getting a card.

But if you live in the Los Angeles area, or anywhere in CA, it's really, really, REALLY easy to get a MMJ card. Doctors will give you a card for almost any reason. For instance, insomnia, stomach pains, back pains, headaches, etc....these are all valid reasons for obtaining a card. When you actually visit the doctor, you probably won't spend more than 15 minutes with him. They are required to take your blood pressure and also advise you of other alternatives besides medicinal marijuana, but this is all procedure.

There's something I'd like to clear up about MMJ Cards. Even though we all say MMJ "Card", what we really mean is MMJ "Doctor's Recommendation". When you visit a MMJ doctor, they provide you with a "Doctor's Recommendation", which is simply a piece of paper that's signed by your Doctor and authorizes you to possess and smoke marijuana. Basically, it's a prescription. Some of these Doctor's might also provide you with a MMJ "Card", which is simply a compact version of the Doctor's Recommendation. However, when you visit any MMJ dispensary(collective), they require to see your actual Doctor's Recommendation (Not Card) to purchase Medicinial Marijuana. So to answer your question, you DON'T need to visit your "County Department". Your Doctor will provide you with the Doctor's Recommendation before you leave his office, which is all you need to visit a dispensary(collective).

(I should note that the State does issue their own MMJ ID Card, but that's completely voluntary and unecessary.)

Another thing I'd like to clear up regarding MMJ "Cards" or "Recommendations" is the matter concerning the dreaded "List."
Plain and Simple.....THERE IS NO LIST!!!!

Just like when you visit any other doctor, your medical records are filed away in a filing cabinet at the doctor's office. They DO NOT enter your name and information into a "database" consisting of other pot smokers. The ONLY people who know you have a recommendation are the people at your Doctor's office. It's that simple.

Now, if your looking for a MMJ Doctor, here are a couple of things to consider...

1) Make sure they don't charge too much. Most places charge $50-$100 for a new MMJ card. Some places even GUARANTEE it! If you don't qualify for your MMJ Recommendation, then you don't pay for the Doctor's visit. So basically, Risk Free!

2) Make sure they provide you with an official MMJ recommendation that's signed by your Doctor and has your ID photocopied somewhere on it.

3) 24/7 Verification. Whenever you visit a MMJ dispensary(collective) for the first time, they are required to verify your Doctor's Recommendation to use Marijuana. To do this, they simply call your Doctor's Office and verify that your a current patient. However, most Doctor's Offices are only open between normal business hours (8AM - 5PM). So if you wanted to visit a dispensary(Collective) for the first time, but it's after 5PM, you wouldn't be allowed in because they couldn't verify you. Luckily, they have solved this problem. Nowadays, many Doctors are offering a 24/7 Verification System. Basically, your Recommendation can be verified by a "live" person at any time. 24/7. I definitely reccommend that you find a doctor that offers this 24/7 Verification.

4) This is the most important! Make sure they are MMJ friendly. Fact is, most doctor's do not prescribe medicinal marijuana. You need to find a doctor that has a history of prescribing MMJ Recommendations. You can find plenty of Doctor's that are "MMJ friendly" on the NORML website or by googling "MMJ Doctor" in your area.

Accsocal.com, greenlifemedical.com, there's a few others. I used the 1st 1 aboug 100. Lots of my patients use the 2nd 1, thinks its 30.

It's a lot less complicated than you think it is.

I've had a doctor's rec since 2002 using a different doctor almost every time and I've never had a single piece of medical documentation. I just tell them my back hurts and I have insomnia. They ask if I have medical paperwork but I just tell them I don't go to the doctor because it's too expensive and they just keep signing me new recs. If you have medical records, bring them. Just know there is a 99.99% chance they'll give you a rec either way.

You pay your money, get your rec, then you're good to go. That's it. You don't need anything else.

I don't even bother getting the "card". Half the clubs will want to see your doctors rec and won't even take the card. The card isn't actually a legal document. The only legal document you need is your doctor's rec. Keep the original in a safe place, then make copies. Put one copy on the door of your grow, one in your car, one in your pocket, and one where ever you store your bud. Then you're good.

A doctor's rec + a drivers license/ID card will get you into any dispensary in California.

Do NOT go apply for the county issued card. There is no law saying you need one of these and potentially the governement could use this info against you (not likely, but possible). The Feds have attempted to go after these records before. For all that trouble you get no benefit in return. My lawyer has strait up told me not to get one.

There is a list if you get a county or state issued card. It's very real. Ask the people of Mendocino. Although I'm unaware of anyone who's had any sort of consequences from getting a state or county issued card, you never know, things could change. Law enforcement has used people's desire to be in compliance with the law against them before. This information could be accessed by subpoena and the feds have already attempted to use a blanket subpoena to access all county medical marijuana records in mendo. I wouldn't say it's likely this will happen all over, but you never know.

There is no list if you go into a doctor and get a medical marijuana recommendation.

all you have to do is be alive and have cash.
