How to Keep Animals Away from Grow Site

This may sound like a stupid question but I thought of it when a couple people mentioned deers don't like any scent of humans. Could you take some rags and cover them in a cheap cologne or musk and lay them around your plants. In case your tank is empty ;)

But then your smoke will taste like rotten eggs and nut sacks :D
I would estimate your theory true.
The manufactor of Deer Away and Deer Off, recommend spraying a barrier around your plants and they list not to use on the plant.
I the problem I see, not used any in the field, is bear like garbage cans and dead ass smelling things. If you barrier it might not be a problem. I have had bear using my potting buckets for chew toys and leave my plant rat fucked, all over the place.
I have heard making a fence with a few strands of fishing line works, the theory is the dew or light reflect similar to spider webs and the deer avoid them, perhaps with a scent barrier it would work better.

My brother has informed me that rubbing a bar of soap on nearby trees have kept just about all animals away. I live out in the middle of nowhere.

I heard about that one too; planning on trying it but don't think I would trust it by itself. A book I have says to plant onions around because deer and rabbits don't like them. Also, where can I get coyote or lion urine?

What precautions can I take for burrowing pests? I was thinking of lining the holes I'm digging with chicken wire; would that be effective?

This is my first post, I am new to most of the growing aspect. Pleanty of friends and family participate, so i know alittle bit, and have been asking numerious questions, but none of them mess with the outdoor grows. I plan on getting around 100 clones in the next few months, and placing them in descrete corn fields. I am new, so I am basically asking for any reccomendations?? I have heard dog hair keeps deer at bay, and predator urine helps as well. Any reccomendations for all of the other parts of the grow cycles aside from crop snatcherz?

I am not sure about Musk, you might be doing more damage then good. Musk is made from the anal glands of deer, it might be a turn on.
"
The Musk Deer is another severely endangered victim of the perfume trade. At the rate it is being poached , that should be about 5 years from now.It is a small deer without antlers , large rounded ears and protruding canine teeth. Male deer have a scent sac which becomes active when they are about two years old. This sac secretes a substance known as musk which the stag uses it to mark his territory and to attract females. Each musk pod or kasturi weighs about 15 gm . This tiny pod is what the perfume trade wants.
About 4,000 adult male deer are killed annually. The French perfume industry alone used 15 % of the world’s musk .All musk deer species have been protected by the International CITES pact since 1979. Inspite of that all Asian wild populations are down by 80% in the last 10 years. In India there were 30,000 in 1986 , there are less than 3000 today.
Three to five musk deer are trapped and killed for every male deer. Since an average of 40 male deer with sufficiently large glands are necessary to produce each kilogram of musk, this means the killing of about 160 deer. Poachers use steel wire snares to trap musk deer. These kill musk deer of all gender and age as well as other species. They cut open the live animal, take the sac and leave it to die in agony. Hundreds of snares lie scattered over the Himalayas .As the population dwindles, the poaching increases, Since almost all the older males have been killed , the size of the pods is getting smaller and smaller as younger males are being killed. Which means more males have to be killed for the same weight. "

I've been pissing in 2 liter soda containers for the last few weeks, my grow site will smell like Wrigley field men's bathroom after a long game!! I have been brushing my german shepherd and collecting his hair to spread around grow site as well. I also will be buying moth balls to spread, hopefully this will keep all pests away!! What do you guys think? Is this overkill or what?

This is just an idea that's been rattling around in my head.
Facts, Adequate Water Retention for WAY Outdoor Grows seems to be 50% of the problem. Carrying water, etc.
2.) Breathing Cotton fibers can cause "Brown Lung", because the fibers do not degrade in the walls of the lung.
3.) Cotton absorbs a LOT of water, and will slowly drain through.
4.) It's all natural & it's cheap, compared to peat, perlite, etc.
5.) If 1/4th inch layers of cotton was layered out every 4 inches in the soil, the roots could & would pass through the layers.
6.) Whole Ground Corn Meal Tea is alive with microbes that kills bad fungi & bad bacteria in the soil, but also promotes the growth of good fungi & bacteria. If layers of cotton was presoaked, some with cornmeal Tea, some with Molasses, Sea Weed, etc, what could be the downside?
Untreated Cotton, mixed with cotton seed meal (6-2-1 to 7-2-2, with trace minerials) for startes should be awesome.
Any thoughts, past experience or info more than welcomed. Robert, you have a freeze alert tomarrow.

Man, longlizard, thats fucked up. I didn't know musk was derived from a musk deers anal glands. They cut em open when their living still too? Man thats really fucked up. At least take the meat too if your already going to go that far.

Dunkin, I don't think thats overkill. Maybe pissing in the bottle before time is a little much since we all pee AT LEAST twice a day. Maybe saving it will make the smell even stronger though cause the deer to stay even farther away lol.

Wrong thread for your question but great ideas. Try the organic section or the outdoors. I would love to see what people say to your idea though.

heres my story of a quick fix for raccoons. i was camping in santa barbra,ca. and over there there was hundreds of raccons over there that would come in and night while you were in your tent and go fuck with all your shit bad! so i took some raw habaneros up there for the 4 days. first night they opened my lil ice chest took my fishing sardines and ate most of them and scattered all my shit!. the next night i put that habenero all over some sardines, marshmallows and some meat we bbq that day and planted it aroud the campsites. about 2:00 in the morning i heard animal screams all over. LOL,LOL,LOL,LOL. i still laugh at that funny shit. the remaining days no raccoons entered our sites. no footprints on the tables or cars.
if they want something to put in there mouth, i'll be there to bring it to them free!!!

for the long term you may have to rebait around your grow due to decomposition. if your getting regular visits from the animal then YOU MUST ENTICE THEM. after one maybe two tries and you wont have that problem from that pest again.

Garlic and onion purried and left around the area has worked for me in the past. Seems to keep the deer and rabbits at bay.
