How to keep it dark?

Okay, So I bought a cheap wardrobe with two side by side compartments to use as a grow room, but I have a problem. I am planning on using computer case fans asintake and exhaust with two fans on the bottom left,
Two fans in the top and two fans on the bottom right, in a sort of inverted U shape.
I am putting this in an unused bedroom, and because of energy prices the plants "night" is going to start at 9 AM. How to I keep the light from flooding into the wardrobe? Is there a better kind of fan to use?

I know the energy cost is a concern but im sure it wont be that bad. I run 3200w and my bill is only 350-400 bucks. Just put em to bed at night time it will save you a big headache. And cut back on a few expenses if need be to cover the cost of running your lights during the day.

From what I have read, the how to grow articles say that utter pitch blackness is extremely important. There are lights outside, that shine through the windows, and I can't do something like cover them with foil, because that is pretty obvious. Is utter pitch blackness that important during the 12/12 flowerin cycle?

Yea you want it as close to pitch black as you can get. Put a black garbage bag over it then tin foil it. Or use a heavy blanket. But put your blinds up first if you have any. Then the garbage bag. Then the foil. It will look normal to the naked eye.

I'm not so sure about the utter darkness thing. Nature provides utter darkness less than 50% of nights. These plants did not evolve requiring utter darkness.

Yea but the darker it gets and the darker it stays will encourage more rapid bud development. Because plants do most of their growing during the night cycle. On my first grow I had some plants in a cubby hole that was in my room. There was cracks in between the door and the frame that let a decent amount of light thru. The plants near the door shadowed the plants behind them. And I had noticed upon harvest that the bud development although not significantly was less on the plants receiving the most light during the dark cycle. So if my observations are correct then you would want it as dark as possible in the room during the night cycle. But if its pretty dark things should be ok. []Deace!

A very low cost solution I use is white posterboard. Mylar is better, but I chose posterboard because it's only $0.97 and it was easier to cut and manipulate inside my box. With the lights off, you can see the effect between having posterboard and not. I just propped up a piece on my current build on the right side door as a demo. The pictures are hard to see because it's so dark, but everywhere you see light is uncovered. Everywhere that's dark is poster boarded.

That's cool. I wonder if I secured a piece of poster board on once edge and mounted the fans on the outside, I could have it operate like a trap door. Fans go on, door opens so I won't have to manipulate them by hand in the day/night cycle.
