i was thinkin of making my own calmag i currently have epsom salt & cuttlebones(85% calcium carbonate) for future use
anyone?

i cant order from ebay. the law wont allow nutes/amendments in any form/amount to be brought here unless i have permits w/c are extremely hard & expensive to get(i tried buy i want to remain low profile). plus, they open every single package in customs since last year luckily i got my beans before that lol.

TIA:blsmoke:

Use hot hot water out of your hot water tank.. (let it cool of course).

'Generally speaking, that should be a pretty good free source.

thanks guys keep it comin. tap water/bottled mineral water + r/o didnt work on my 1st grow
im gonna boil water and pour it on finely ground calcium carbonate then let it steep and when i need to use it, i'll add a bit of epsom salt and ph down in a separate container.
whats the ca and mg ratio btw? ima use 1tsp epsom salt for 1 gallon of r/o

Dude where in the hell do you live? Germany 1939?

The epsom salt is soluble by itself. Calcium carbonate is very sparingly soluble in water at ordinary pH, it is more soluble in acidic solution. You could also just add both to whatever medium you are growing in. Add more calcium carbonate than epsom salt.

For example, I take eggshells and use a coffee grinder to pulverize them into a lime (which is roughly 95% calcium carbonate) and use this at a heaping tablespoon per gallon of soil mix.

to get enough calcium into solution to do any good the solution will be too acidic to be usefull. Vinegar will break down and become useless, the usual for this exercise in futility is to use phosphoric acid, ie ph down, which also happens to supply phosphorous.

I know they said they can't order on ebay, but Calcium Nitrate is really readily available. Its a common hydroponic water soluble fert around the world.
