How to not make a million

Last summer I rented a room to a guy who turned out to be a burglar. He’s in jail now for 6 years on, surprisingly enough, burglary charges. While I was away one weekend he actually sold my dog, a Brussels griffon, for 500 bucks. He told me she ran away when I got back. His estranged baby mama told me the truth after he was carted away. While he was living with me he and a friend cut a hole in the ceiling of his bedroom and started a grow in my attic. After the cops nailed him his friend, I’ll call her Libby, told me about the grow and asked for help. It was three plants and we got 2 and a half ounces out of it. Not bad for a four hundred watt light and a few bags of dirt. The strain was anonymous, as it too ( I later found out) was stolen. This time from someone else’s grow. She hadn’t taken any clones so we had what we had. I smoked my share and thought, “Damn that was easy.” I had lost my job as a CTO for a manufacturing plant a few months before and the idea (if you’ll excuse the pun) just grew. I talked to another friend and he put up 10 grand and I bought a hydro system, lights and mail ordered some seeds. As Libby told me she was an “expert” she joined us as I rented a house and modified the basement for our physical plant. Libby was fond of dirt grows and I was sold on Hydro so we set up two rooms and the 8x8 room was set up for bagged dirt while the 10x6 room. Her job was to grow the weed and pay half the bills until the system started producing.
I still had a three year lease on my other house so I moved an ex girlfriend in. Her boyfriend’s house was too small for her kids and the guy (drunk) threw them out one morning at 4am. I picked her up and I moved her in (she decided to stay with him so he moved in too). He was told it was her house and if he felt the need to throw anyone out, he can do it to himself. The day after we moved, the cops showed up at the house without warrant and told us they were looking for a pot growing operation. I let them search as I had moved already. Turns out the burglar had tried to cut a deal by turning me in for growing. It felt exciting, one step ahead of the cops and out on the ragged edge… Yeah right. But the new system was doing alright Libby had started some bag seed and was creating mother plants and we were on our way to fuck you money. The system I had purchased was an Ebb and Gro with 24 pots. She gave me 12 small clones and 6 of them were males. Her bag plants were going well though, 18 of them. She was getting annoyed with my questions and my online research was turning up information that contradicted what she was telling me. Two months have now gone by and I was asked to leave the grow alone and let her work. I did for a month or so. I went downstairs one day to ask her something and in the dirt room one of the mothers was in full hermi bloom. Every plant in the house was pollinated. Amazing how many seds buds can produce given time and pollen.

I pointed this out to her and she tried to defend keeping it. I added some pots after the first bag seed harvest and asked for thirty clones full half were male. As she had only paid bills in a sketchy manner I felt justified in getting rid of her. 6 months of wasted time. I set up a smaller grow for her in another house and cut ties. If she drops dime I drop dime, mutually assured destruction. I also promised her a share of the next two crops. I felt safe-ish, but as I was low on money I had little choice as I couldn’t move. The original seeds I ordered died under her care so I ordered more. Northern lights crossed with skunk. Fast flowering and tasty bud. I started them in May as I tried to sort out the males from the females already growing. The bag seed was apt to go hermi and two of the four mothers were actually male. My big room was flowering in thirty pots They were flowering beautifully and I woke at 5 am and there Libby was downstairs with a flowering male in her hand waving it in front of the fan. She had issues with me succeeding when she was failing. I have never been a violent man but if I had a shovel and some lime at that point... I paid her off and changed the locks and talked her son into mellowing her out. In the end I threw away the whole crop. That makes 7 months and little to show for it. Now my new mothers are doing well. I bought a second EBB and Gro with the proceeds of what I could get out of the last crop. This one had only 18 pots but I had enough for it. Goodbye dirt room. I bought an ez cloner and am getting good return on my clones (100% last time). I half filled the system with what clones I could get out of the first and only got a ¼ ounce out of each. I didn’t veg them much at all. The plants that are currently in have been vegged 4weeks and look great. Next harvest in the big room have vegged 6 weeks and are currently looking good. I am hoping next harvest (18 pots in the former dirt room) will net me at least 6 ounces and the 30 pot room will net me a pound. All of which harvest next month. Someone once told me that a new grow will end in jail or tears. I am hoping to succeed. It’s the lure of easy money it has a very strong appeal. Easy… yeah, right…

I would get out. You've broken rule #1. That will land you in jail 9 times out of 10. Good luck with your grow. I hope you can stay safe.

Sounds like my learning curve except add mutant super tough spider mites among the hermies, and end with a dui where a judge suspends your ability to legally grow and puts you on probation 3 years with monitoring.

Live the dream while all is well my friends. :)

Oh and just wait until she sobers up and gets religious or something and turns you in for your own good or some shit.

What are you talking about though with 6 ounces from one room and 30 pots giving you 1lb? Do you mean 30lbs, I guess you need not answer that question but a person would be doing something really wrong if they net 1lb off 30 plants. Unless you are growing with LED's or household Flouro's I guess.

These kind of soap operas happen all the time in the pot biz. You are better to go on your own and work from the bottom up if partners can't co-operate. Growing pot is not easy money. I trust timers, pumps, valves, etc.

Floramite worked for me eventually, similar pro level stuff, and yep certain areas everyone does have them sort of unavoidable the way they can come in blowing in the wind or on your clothes or dogs or whatever.

I had no idea what tough quick reproducing little bastards they are though, and how they hibernate and come back even if you kill all the live ones...

Wow.

Hate them almost as much as an uncontrollable bitch. :)

Good luck on your grow. Here's hydro on steroids for your enjoyment, million dollar picture:

Living on the edge QRD! Living on the edge,,,,,,

Another reason to never Break Rule #1.

I don't know whether to rep ya for being a tolerant sob or flame ya for breakin da' RULE.

Hopefuly things settle down and you can get back on track.

Easy money. Now that deserves a laugh. Growing em right ain't so easy. Then ya have to cure it.
Then ya have to sell it without getting ripped.

Yeah baby, easy money my ass.

Good luck ahead. There has to be a bountiful harvest in your future.

Me in that situation?
The 3 S's would have been applied with extreme prejudice.

There are only four people who even know what town I am in. I have two mailing addresses none at the house. Currently three folks know the address a partner (whom I raised the money from) and the psycho.

If you want to yield big here's a good place to start. Change everything you are doing:

http://www.thcfarmer.com/forums/f131/

Everyone in that part of the forum is using a system that can yield multiple pounds per plant per cycle and flip like a sog. Someone detail oriented enough to follow every step of that system properly can do quite well with it.
42lbs on 10 plants of the highest yielding strain and 8 week veg was the record last year, probably beaten now.
Enjoy... You can send me a percentage of your increased earnings. :)

Even the setup you use now could benefit drastically from changes you could get from them, but without the added root space in larger containers with larger resevoirs and bigger pumps and vertical lights and the same nutes and strains and every little thing you can't get very close to the pic I posted it takes every detail to the T.
