On my own plants...
If the leaf is mostly green and still perky, I leave it alone. If its just one blade damaged, I might trim off just that damaged part and leave the rest of the leaf alone.
If the leaf is mostly yellow, brown spots/burned edges, I use trimming scissors to cut it off at the petiole (leaf stem) as close as possible the the branch where it protrudes.
If the leaf looks light yellow and wilting (like N deficiency) I give it a light tug to see if it will let go on its own. If it doesn't let go with a light tug, I leave it til the next day and try again...or I might just trim it like above.
