How to setup DWC system for 2 plants (scrog)?

Hi,

I have 80cm X 80cm X 180cm grow tent, 400w hps and carbon filter. I want to setup a dwc system for growing 2 plants. I will grow my plants using scrog method and lucas formula.

- How can I setup my dwc system? rDWC or DWC? How can I easily control my water, (change water, add nutrients) when plants in scrog. it should be to hard

- Which one should I choose?
1. 2 plants in same big container
2. Different container for each plant

Could you advice any suggestion?

Thanks,

At the moment all i do is drain using the submersible pump, then fill with a bit of water to dilute the remaining soup and drain again, it's the best
i can do atm but it works and others do the same thing.

I went with rdwc so i could add nutes directly to the system and let it mix itself, the control bucket also ended up being the perfect size
to fit in the back of my diy dehumidifier chiller.

2 buckets. once the plants get significant size itll be harder to maneuver them around when attached at one point.

I'd get two buckets, start them in just one for convinence and then separate them when they grow bigger (before their roots touch).

Two buckets (no water container) ok. How can I add water, add nutrients, check ph, check water level when grow under the scrog?

Dude it has to be rdwc unless you have a scrog cage for each plant with bucket. No way around it. Multi scrog plants are stationary.

2 x buckets / 1 dual output hydro farm air pump / 2 x air stone /2x airlines / 2x 4-5 inch net pot / hydroton- drill hole in bottom of net pot, insert airline, hook up airstone, hold airstone to bottom of net pot, fill with hydroton(the hydroton should hold the air stone to the bottom of the net pot), fill bucket with water til it reaches bottom of net pot, this way you will get maximum oxygen and water saturation to the roots of the seedling. Once the plants get bigger and start using lots of water up remember to lower your airstone....

get yourself a 3rd bucket to transfer your plant to while re-setting your nutes in the other bucket.

Theres no way id waste my time with rdwc for two plants. Get two black buckets, two 6 inch net pot lids (biy the ones with built in lids, dont make your own), a decent bubbler or two for each one. I assume they are two different strains so they probably have different needs. Good quality nutrients to use sparingly, hopefully under 1100 on the first grow all the time. A good ppm meter, calmag, a 100 ml syringe, ph drops, a net, and air flow. Straight up dwc is easy as pie as long as you slowly move the ppm up, no leaf drop and amazing sugar production.

@alienwidow--- now that shit make perfect sense. No one ever seems to remember that different variety's have varied nutrient tolerance. Plus for a noob to remain "sterile" in a recirculating is funny, disease would take the whole crop. Best to learn to craw before running.

Had one go 76 days and one go 90ish on my first grow. And ive read a chunk of heisenburgs thread on brown slime and seen many running joint rez dwc see problems. Just remember that they pretty much always double or more in dwc so planning your netting is key in a small space.

Well, my plan (doing the same setup) is to buy 2 extra buckets, turn them upside down and put my grow buckets on top of them. When I change res, I just pull the lower bucket aside so I can lower the res bucket down, leaving the plant suspended in the air.

thanks for advice, but I didn't understand how can I manage my buckets in the flowering state under the scrog? I can't put up plants from bucket because plants attached to scrog so how can I add water or check ph?

You're gonna wanna do a recirculating DWC. You'll have 3 five gallon buckets, 1 will be your control bucket where you add your nutes / fresh h2o. They will be connected together in a circuit form using preferably 2" PVC pipes. You'll then have an inline pump that recirculates your nutrient solution through the buckets and back into the control. Relatively easy to setup and the only way to go especially when you're gonna do a scrog. You don't ever need to remove the plants from their buckets to change the nutrient solution because everything is either added or taken out of the control bucket. You can check out how I built my system in my thread "Girl Scout Cookies RDWC Scrog Grow." That'll give you an idea of what I'm talking about and something you could consider doing.

You will not get all of the nute solution out without a whole lotta hassle but that's ok. As long as you get most of it out you will be fine. I've even done a grow where I never changed the water, just add backs. Turned out fine I could not tell the difference. The rdwc or even a small petcock drilled at the base of the buckets will allow you to drain most of the solution out. Add backs can be put in at the netpots. My biggest issue with 5 gal buckets is that the small volume leads to constant ph swings.

Separate buckets means possibility to adjust nutes per plant and means one pythium infected res does not influence the other. Added bonus, it's simpler and cheaper to build.

BTW. I'm having doubts about the idea of just draining old res out and pouring new in. All the organic waste that clings to the bucket surface just keeps building up and being possible feeding ground for the nasties. I think it's much better to scrub the bucket and wash the stones before puting fresh water in.

What i do is put a cinder block under the bucket, that gives you about a foot of extra room. Then its as simple as getting another bucket. Pull up the net lid by the stalk of the plant, pull out the old rez bucket and slide in the new ready to go nutrient filled bucket. It takes seconds. I just drill the holes through the lid, NOT through the side of the bucket or youll be fuckin around switching airstones and shit and thats a pita. 6" net lids are the best size impo. You just pop em off and slide em to the side and you can look in and see debris, bubble flow, grab ph water, dip your truncheon, no worries. Those 10" ones are frickin impossible to work with, when you slide the top off theres no room to do anything down the side. I had no prob pulling 12 oz dry off of 6" net pots.

I have had decent success with using a simple hand water pump I found at a local hardware store. I use it to pump in clean water for topping off and also use it to pump out the remaining nutrient solution prior to changing. Eliminates and hassles of moving a tied up plant. It also means you have to be extra careful on the chemistry going on in your bucket since you are not trading out the old for a clean one.

Ive heard of guys using the pumps. I like to just change out the buckets because then i get to scrub the bucket and get it ready for next change out. I dont like residue, the cleaner the better. Both ways will work though.

I got ya! I do the exact same thing early on in my process though in the later stages I get ... cough.. cough... lazy. I'm sure it will bite me soon enough!
