Plants will show sex from either of two things. If you let them veg long enough they will mature and begin to show sex at the base of the nodes. Two little hairs indicate a female and a little stub that will sprout balls indicates a male. Or, you can speed this up by putting the plants on a 12 hr/12 hr light cycle, forcing them to flower and show sex at an earlier time. Don't worry about seeds, the males will be recognizable long before they age enough to burst open and pollinate the females around them.

early sexing is only really an issue if you're flowering cabinet is limited in space. if it's not, as said, you'll be able to tell long before it's an issue, and it really is the difference between black and white.

another method, although a bit of a painstaking one, is to take 10 cones, one from each, label accurately, then just force these straight into flower the moment they root. you can then look at them, tick off 1 3 5 and 9 as being the females, and as such only keep the corresponding "mother plants"

you really need to read some guides or watch some videos, it'll help you far more than asing questions will, guaranteed.

when you put plants into flowering, they don't stop gropwing, in fact they double and sometimes tripple in size. but if you have 2 meters of verticle space a a bulb that will penetrate far enough, then it's silly not to veg them upto a real good height, so if you have the space to be growing rather large trees, then i'd look a tthe clone method. you'll know what sex they are before they are ready to be flowerered anyway.

the flourecent lights need to be pretty close, within inches, jsut hold your hand between the light and the top fo the plants, the top of your hand facing the light should not feel hot. (nice and vague :P)

with a 400w sodium bulb, unless you are using a closed hood (a reflector that uses ducts to cool the light and extract the heat it produces) then about 1 foot sounds pretty good. i recall reading 18 inches somewhere. again though, just pop your hand palm down above the tops of the plants and if it feels hot, then the plants are going to find it hot so raise it an inch (again, "hot" is rather vague i'm afraid)

i ahte to say this, but from all initial appearances it looks like you are totally wasting your time thinking that you're going to have a fruitful harvest, if a harvest at all.

why do you say that? is my room scetchy or is it cause of my lack of growing experience
Give me all of your info - what kind of lights do you have, what soil are you using, whats your PH, what nutes are you using etc.?? Second, put those plants in individual pots or they will fight eachother for root space. Your plants are too early to sex you should wait until it makes its fourth or fifth set of branches. Then switch them to 12/12 and AS SOON as you see signs of sex switch them back to 18/6 or 20/4 or whatever your pref is for veg. The longer you wait, the more stress your plants will have. Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

Ok those MH bulbs will be fine to grow with, but when you bud you should get a HPS. Like I said I would put those plants in individual pots and huddle them as close as possible under those lights. Make sure you have a fan blowing on them so it doesnt get too hot or humid. It will also help strengthen the stems. Nutes is short for nutrients. Most potting soils will feed your plants for a week or two but after that you need to feed them. There are many articles on this site about what nutrients to use and how to use them so read up! Knowledge is the key to understanding. I use advanced nutrients but there are many options available. It depends on how much money you want to spend really.

As far as the sexing goes they won't show signs until you switch the light schedule to 12/12. Get a timer if you dont have one already. Your plants will stretch 2-3 times its height in budding stage (12/12) so make sure you plan for that. For example if your room is 8 feet tall start budding when the plants are under 4 feet. Keep in mind that the bigger your plants are the more buds you should get.

Seeing what you have and from what I've read you have the idea but you need a little adjustments. you said your using 75watt Mh bulbs that works and so do cfls. im sure if its a strain or not but try and lower them lights. close enough so the wont burn but close enough so they can get more bushy plants grow to the light you dont want stretching your plants will look really tall and skinny seperate them plants before you dont want any of your males ruining your good females. theirs a couple ways you can do your sexing you can clone and flower your clones dep on the space you got you could just flower your whole batch untill you see your sex but you def cannot flower them all in your buckets they have to be seperated basically doin the same thing but with alittle bigger room im probably just going to flower my whole batch because i have veg and flowerin room so i can sex them

Good but watch the temp on those plants make sure the fan is hitting the plants enough to make them jiggle a little that will strengthen those long stems up.
