When growing, how can you tell (if you can) exactly what type of weed you have. Any information would be helpful. Here is a pic of what's growing now. Any suggestions?

i would say like any other plant: size, leaves and flowers. i would suggest to read up on the more popular strains and compare the characteristics of your plants to those strains.

just grow it out and call it Purple feet stinky nose. or how 'bout space pilot, captain neptune, green tomato, hot pot, destiny, mali poli, pocko locco, very fine herb, upside down widow... this name game has got to stop! i'm ready to cross every A+ herb i have with evry other A+ i start making up names. everyone else is. i already did it once. i'll keep going. aaaaaaagggghhh!

i go to my club. i donate meds for recovery costs. he asks what kind is it. i say Purple Kush. he says i already have some of that. i say call it whatever. a week later i go back. try the lavender everyon says, "it's the best". so i causally glance at it because i trust their opinion, and i pay up my top dollar fee. i get it home... sure enough i just bought my own meds. it all fits into a handful of catergories that spin off into infinity.

so my friend i would just call it: Some Fine Ass Weed

Well, judging from the pic you provided I would have to say it to be an indica with a small amount of sativa for character. It's parents would be an F2 feminized, crossed with an afghani hash plant each from different season grow ops. One having been indoors of course.
Judging from the breadth of the leaves I would say the father was originally grown on the eastern face of a temperate climate plateau and the mother woud have been grown indoors around a small litter of chihuahuas.

'Naw cat, I'm just pullin' your leg. he he heh!

Next time buy your seeds from a seedbank and it will take all the guess work out

Also you can then read up on your type of plant

Indica plants are short, bushy, mature early, have more chlorophyll and less accessory pigments (accessory pigments protect the plant from excessive sunlight).
As Indica strains have more chlorophyll than sativa they grow and mature faster.

Sativa plants are taller, take longer to mature, have less chlorophyll and more accessory pigments (accessory pigments protect the plant from excessive sunlight).
As Sativa strains have less chlorophyll than Indica they take longer to grow, mature, and require more light.

Hybrid plants have a combination of both Indica and Sativa growth characteristics which are relative to strain ratio.

That plant you have there is very similair to what us auzzies have in far north QLD Called the Duck Plant, except the duck plant only has 3 big fat leaves not 5 leaves, they are a real dark green in colour. The buds have a combination of orange white and purple hairs depending on the soil content and what you have been feeding the plant.

HI Paul..

You should not be watering more than once every 3-10 days... If you don't use proper watering technique you can/will get root bound...

Water with a LOT of water... .5 - 1 gallon of water when your soil is DRY.. IF the container is light or the top 2-4 inches are BONE dry, it is time to water... Your plants need OXYGEN.. and if tyou water every day the roots will have to go to the bottom of the conatiner to get oxygen... this will reduce your YIELD.... you want the roots to be able to use the entire container.. not just the bottom...

and NOW you KNOWM

BTW your plant looks GOOD :)

Garden i'm gonna have to disagree with you there, it all depends on the climate on which you live at and what strain of plant it is for how often you water, when i had my last crop all in big pots 18" deep 12" wide, my water tray's were 31/2" deep and 2 an half inches wider then base of pot. I had to water my plant every afternoon when i finnished work cuz it was all bone dry if i missed a day's watering the leaves on the plant would start sagging and curling up an losing its colour, simple symptons of plant lacking water.

You must have had a lot of pelite in your medium. 18"X12" is a fairly large pot and to be watering everyday.. well i have never heard of that. wow!

wow...

Lots of good points.. thanks for the INFO :)

couple questions....

1. what medium were you growing in?
2. How much water were you giving your plants (at each watering)?
3. What was the temperature?

cheers

Well to start off with i dont germinate my seeds i put them straight into my seedling bed, normally afta a week in the seedling bed i transplant them into a medium sized pot bout 6" high x 4" wide, with a water tray an inch deep bout inch an half wider then base of pot, after the plants are bout 2 foot tall its then i transplant into the biggest pots i got or straight into the ground depending on what i have available and if i have prepared the soil in yard for plant to go inground. where i was living at the time max temp got bout 36 degree's celcius with bout 75% humidity at night used to drop to a cool 20 degree's maybe little lower. How much water was i giving them? well it all depends on the day, but most day's when i got home from work the tray's were bone dry and used to drag the ol hose nearly hundred yards up the back paddock to where me plants where located in there pots at the time, i basically had the hose goin slow watering round base of plant till water was overflowing out of the water tray's. on a really hot day's used to put me finger over the egde of the hose so mist like water was coming out and wet the whole plant. when i pulled the plants out of the pots to hang upside down in me cupbard in me caravan i was living to dry the plants out, the shortest plant i had was bout 5 foot and the tallest being bit over 8 foot, and yes i did tip them all the time they wernt just tall but bloody bushy as all fuck. hope that answered ya questions.

had plants outside last summer in 7 gallon pots. weather was insanely hot 100+. watered each plant with 2 gallons of water twice a day. during typical heat ,80's, i would water 2 gallons every other day.
