How To Wire A Rubbermaid Light Set Up

Ive been seeing tons of posts recently of how to wire lights so they can be put into stealth cabs or rubbermaids.

So i was putting together one for a test set up (check out my journal in may) and I wanted to post it so people can use it without reasking

First you need to get the following things:
-a vanity light fixture for a bathroom (can be any amount of bulbs)
-an entension cord (my tip is to use one thats made for broken tools cause its already stripped, they are in the same section as the normal ones)
-light y-inserts
-tons of duck tape
-AND this is important, to have electrical caps (youll see how they work later)

Here are the goods:

Take apart the vanity mirror by taking off the front panel and pulling the 3 wires through the back, there should be a black, white and another one which represents the ground (sometimes different colours)

Next, strip your entension cord and youll notice the exact same black, white wires and a green one (which is the ground)

Just attach each colour to the corresponding one. When you make the connection place the electrical caps on the top of the connection and put a bunch of tape

Tape it all down to the fixture so the wires dont get in the way

Put in the y light fixtures and then youre done, plugger in... as you can see from the last picture make sure you clean everything up to avoid fires

Hope this helps, feel free to leave msgs with questions or PM. Rep+ if ya use it

Its something so simple but I know a lot of people mess it up... my buddy wired it wrong and gave himself a huge fucking shock lol, when you touched the metal plating of the light backing it would shock you... very unsafe haha

So I figured when i do this I might as well just write down what im doing... expect a different type of carbon filter and a totally different make up for a rubbermaid container set up in the next 2 weeks

How well do carbon filters work on rubbermaids. I was looking into the homemade one that's on here. I want you to be able to stand in the room(attic) and not smell anything. Does it work that well?

Truthfully its trial and error... this will be my first grow in my house but ive helped wire and set up and maintain a lot of grows

i find the first few times its a trade off between smell and how cool you can get it... cause its hard to push tons of hair through a fliter with computer fans lol

some fliters work really well and others only mildly... you kind of just have to go into it assuming youll change it down the road

id say they work on average about 80% of the smell... also get a strain that doesn't smell as much

but with additional 'smells' in the room its hard to tell... for example get something that sprays or really strong deorderizers and youre fine

my buddy also grows a really strong smelling flower with his weed... so when it blows out it barely smells

if you get tricky enough you can wire 3 of those fixtures in a series of 3 and have some nice lighting using 23wcfls.....i wouldnt go more than 3 to a series..

Nice setup, how much does that lighting fixture run for at lowes? I'd like to do a pair with 2 in each in a rubbermaid, give me a little more room for growth height.

i paid 13 for the fixture, and 39 cents for the y spliters... the extension cord if you strip it yourself is 4-5 bucks, but if you get the stripped one its 8

Thanks a bunch man. Just did this, without the Y fixtures, and it worked wonderfully! The whole set up cost 21 dollars, including the light bulbs. Vanity = around 10, three compact fluorescents were only 9 dollars, the extension cord was 2. It was so cheap I guess because no ground.

Heh, I guess I'll start a grow journal. Shouldn't be to much trouble. I'll start her up tomorrow.
