How Would You Stock A Small Cannabis Section In A Nursery

I work in a garden center in the greater SF Bay Area and I've been given the go-ahead to bring in a selection of products geared toward the beginning and "hobby" cannabis growers. No hydro gear, and probably no lighting other than T5s or maybe lower-end LED. Now that we are legal for recreational sales in the state, we've been hearing from people who want to test the waters. Several people have walked in and said they just picked up a couple of clones and asked, "What do I do now?". We have decided to keep it relatively simple and carry enough to keep them from walking out and going elsewhere. Probably looking to fill 12-15 feet of shelf space, not counting soil or pots.

I've been growing for quite some time and work to keep myself educated so I feel like I've got a decent handle on this, but would love input as I'm certain there are helpful thoughts out there that we can use to make this successful. For soil, we will go with Recipe 420 as we already have a vendor that carries it, and are likewise covered for fabric pots so I'd love to hear your ideas for nutes, supplements, pest control or anything else you feel would be useful.

Thanks very much for your input.

pH meters, pH strips, drops and pH up/ down , etc. Small things that have a great impact for 1st time grower.
I would suggest you carry soil and pots. Basic line of nutes.
Hate to see your customers go somewhere else.

We had a big discussion on nutes the other day.

People liked the powdered nutes. GH maxibloom to follow the Lucas formula and ionic bloom was another good one. For liquid nutes the GH trio or flora series is good. Also carry calmag. Soft plant ties, netting, bamboo stakes, Saucers, light hangers, ph calibration fluid, ph up and down, ph and ppm meters.

Supplements like kelp, silica, humic and fulvic acid, mycorrhizae, Dolomite lime, azomite.

For clones, humidity dome, rockwool or rooting plugs, rooting gel.

I have come to be seriously impressed with the Botanicare KIND line.
Delivers Ca and Mg at levels to not require any added by supplementing, in most strains.
Simple to use and effective. 3 bottle line, and it out preforms G&H trio any day!

Avoiding lines with large amounts of supplements is a good idea. They work but, are simply ways for the maker to increase profits over any real plant needs.
Dyna Gro Foliage PRO is a simple single nutrient that works well for many.
G&H FloraNova line is nice....2 part, Veg and bloom.

Many powdered lines, you most likely already have... Jack's classic and Peter's work well when used properly. Jack's Classic Citrus is a very popular powdered mix for cannabis growers in the "know".
Someone said Mega Crop. This is a good idea! Cannabis specific formulation...
You most likely have some Epsoma or Fox Farm dry organic mix's....The Tomato tone can work well in soils, as the FF tomato will too. Care must be taken in their use.

I'm sure those things like Dolomite you have already for the regular customers. A simple heads up on Dolo. It contains large amounts of Mg. If used as a soil "builder," it can be to heavy a Mg.
So it's a good idea to have a non Dolo Ca source around. You most likely have Oyster shell in powder form. I would direct people to that first. Any Mg needs can be adjusted by the use of Epsom in feed mix solutions. So Epsom maybe?

Potassium Sulfate would be an great choice to have around. It is one of only 2 things I supplement in bloom. Alpha Chemical is my go to brand. It has superior dissolving properties over others.
It would be supplemented at the rate of 1/4 tsp per gallon of feed in bloom to week 5 or 6. Heavier yields and increased trich and trep profiles. This eliminates the need for "bloom" supplements in bottles.
You can also make a 6% Potassium sulfate mix that does the same and eliminates the Terpinator or Resinator bottled supplements that are stupid expensive!

Simple instructions for that...
227 grams of that Potassium sulfate powder
1 Gallon water (prefer RO)
1.5 tsp DARK BROWN sugar

Combine and mix well - done! Apply at 10 ml per gallon of feed solution.

Fox Farm nutrients are not charted for cannabis and following the charting is not productive for it. Avoid the hype and don't carry them...

You will encounter Organic requests.
I prefer Aurora for those. They include a dry organic line that is mixed in, or top dressed. Very nice for the organic folks who maybe starting out and want only organic dry nutrients.
They also have a bottled organic line that works well...
The above stated Epsoma and FF mix's fall in here also..

If not stocking any hydro specific lines (The Botanicare KIND goes both ways - soil and hydro, same for the Dyna and the FloraNova). Skip the Silica as it's not needed for soil growing at all. Save shelf space!

Effective and safer pH ups - skip ones based with potassium silicate. Downs are basic but, Mad Farmer has a real, real nice and effective one! Use's less by half to get results in solutions, and l;asts longer if someone does use it for a hydro application.

As far as stocking any Humic and/or Fulvic mix....I would stock only BIO AG's - FUL HUMIX
This IS the BEST Humic/Fulvic on the market.. Purity and source are everything in Humic/Fulvic use!

There's my 2 cents....

Question for you dude. I'm using Lucas formula w/ coco. I mixed 1 tablespoon Dolomite lime per gallon of coco.

You said Dolomite is high in mg. Isn't that exactly what I need with the Lucas formula?
100-100-200+60 mg with the mg coming from the Dolomite that was pre mixed in with the coco.

Are you saying to add epsom with the Dolomite? Won't that just add more mg? I'm confused as to what your saying. If I'm using Lucas formula with Dolomite lime what exactly am I doing wrong? And what do I need to correct it.

Should I not use Dolomite and use something else is what your saying?
