Hey all! I used to be a card holder in California. Now I live in a state that's still trying to get it's head out....
While I was in Cali I ordered some seeds from Amsterdam and got to work. I was growing in a stand up single person shower and I did not buy feminized seeds. I germinated 8 of 8 right off the bat and had 8 beautiful 3" tall seedlings. Time for their new homes! I BURNED THE SHIT out of them. Even though I had watched my Jorge Cervantes grow guide, I put way too much fertilizer in and they died in less than a day.
My next time I germinated my last 8. Again, they all got going and I put them in some soil and it was off to the races. In the middle of the night I heard a loud crash that came from the bathroom. After grabbing my shotgun, I went to the room to find my light had broke through the ceiling. Very sad. Totally my fault. I had mounted it in sheet rock and no stud. Stupid. Only 2 of my girls survived. I vegged them out for about 2 months to come home one day to my Boston Terrier eating the shit out of them!!!! They both survived, but were badly harmed. I vegged them anothe month and decided I should start flowering. Long story short after all my turmoil I grew the most beautiful MALE plants in southern Cali! I lost the drive then moved all over the country. That was in 2007 and now it's time to get serious.
I ordered about $200 worth of seeds. G13 Pineapple express, 4 or 5 free seeds, blueberry, orange, and Manga.... I can't even remeber, but they are all feminized. I have since grown 5 years worth of beautiful gardens and flower beds. My green thumb has definitely matured. (Thanks Mom!).
I am growing in my basement, which is perfect besides the height. It's only about 5'10 all over and about 6'4 in the high spots between the floor joists. I'm going all out though. I am painting the floor with cement sealer (matte white) and enclosing it all in with white plastic with black backing. I have a 400w HPS light with some sort of blue (very light, can't even really be seen) coating that's supposed to help with the blue spectrum. I am buying a 6" "bad ass" fan. I am kicking around the idea of supplementing my one light with some LED's or possibly flourescents. The basement is not completely sealed so should have plenty of fresh air. Plus, I will be sucking a vacuum with the fan. I have my temp and humidity. It's been running 52-56% as is. I will see what it does once I get the lights and fans going.
I am not growing for profit. It's for personal stash so I'm going to start with 4 plants and judge the smell. I also plan on a carbon filter that's outsized my exhaust fan. I have 10 ft of insulated 6" ducting to cut down on noise. My only fear is the smell. I am about to piss myself with excitement!
In my research I've found this site keeps popping up so I decided to make a log in. It's a little different from my usual muscle car forums I'm on, but it all follows the same rules. Learn from each other, talk some smack, and understand we all have a passion for cultivating a beautiful plant.
Here we go!
