Oh my - what a lovely Monday it has been!
I met with the head of volunteers for an assisted living appt. building. I am going to start at the end of this week, and there are 3 different elderly people, with various stages of dementia, that I will be a "friendly visitor" with.
Oh my - I literally got sweaty eyes when she was describing them.
One of them is a man who lost his wife in December. She died of cancer and the long-term care facility is right across the street from the appts. He used to walk there everyday at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He has no short term memory, and often wants to go for walks because he has to get to "mother". That's what he called his wife. Then someone has to tell him that she has passed away.
I am so happy that he is one of my 3. I may go home and cry every night that I see him. But I feel like I can really help his quality of life.
I'm so fucking happy I'm finally doing this.
