HPS Ballast Issue

Hey guys,

I've rigged up my ballast and just plugged it in, the light came on for a second and the electricity in the house went.
I haven't connected any 'earth' or 'ground wires' is this a problem, can I put ground with neutral?

are you pulling too much electricity

New ballast?

Seems to be working fine now, I just put the neutral wire with the earth going into the ballast, and left the only the live and neutral going into the reflector.

Does this sound safe, just one earth cable is exposed
