so i am looking in to the hps bulbs and i am not sure how many plants can i put under a 400w hps . i am gonna do 6 plants and how i was thinking on doing it is hang one 400w on both sides of the room and put 3 plants on one side and 3 on the other. will that work out well. another thing is can i use the same hps bulb for vegg and flowering ?
this is my grow room..

put both lights close to each other with all 6 plants under them. The light crossover from both lamps by each other will be better than having them seperated.

i grew these plants in the picture above with four 100w bulbs for each plant and it grew lovely. i was really thinking this time going with the bigger cfls 150w with 4000 lumens and four of them for each plant. how do u think that will go, or should i just go with hps. i am worried about the heat give off and bill

I get 4 plants under 1 400W. But I would be happier with 6 plants under 2 400W lamps. 4 plants in 5 gallon containers is pushing the light limit for one lamp this this size, imo.

6 medium to small sized plants is totally do able (by medium to small I mean 1-2 feet finishing hight). If you are planing on doing larger plants 3-4 feet then you can only fit 2-3 plants under a 400w. Most larger plants need at the very least 200w of light each (thats if you want to grow dank and less pop corn bud). Contrary to what may seem logical; more plants doesn't mean higher yields (it would if you were using sunlight). What happens if you stuff too many plants under one light is that you end up depriving your plants of light since the total light penetration is poorer with too many plants. This negatively effects your yields.

Bottom line is that that 3 plants under each light should work totally fine.

how much is your current electric bill? $1200 a month? here in the midwest it a 400W adds $15-$20 a month I'm gonna guestimate. The computer you are posting from probably uses as much.

What Kerovan said ,, a 400 hps is like having five 100 watt house lights on

my current electric bill now is like 60 bucks a month. what i did was 400w x 18hrs divide by 1000 x 0.6135 kh x 30 which is a month and i got $132 x 2 $264 per month extra just for having 2x 400w hps, or am i making a mistake lol

You can check how much the electric company charges per watt by visiting their website or go to them directly and ask all sorts of questions. In Nevada, there's a monopoly on electricity and it costs 12 cents per 1000 watts. Calculate it out and you'll know exactly how much it will cost you to run your garden <3

you are making a mistake. 400W is only a small percentage of what you already use. If you are paying 60 now, it will probably be 90 with 2 400W lamps added
