HPS in a Rubbermaid. Can it be done?

Wat Up RIU? I have a question about a Rubbermaid setup I'm thinking of doing. I only have space for this so dont tell me I should use my closet cause I'm in a small apartment. If I put 2 - 36gallon rubbermaids clamshell style together can I use an HPS inside? I really want to use an HPS but have heard it would just roast the shit outta my plants. I'm probably assuming it would need to be a cool tube and since I dont really care too much about stealth (just smell) I could have some stuff on the outside of the clamshell.

If so whats the highest Wattage I could get away with?
How would You set it up?
Let me know if you have ne more questions about the setup.
Please respond I'm looking for all the info I can get before I start to grow.

i would go 150. thats alot of heat for a rubbermaid

You will have to vent the hell out of a rubbermaid to put a HPS in it.... g'luck......

Ok so how the fuck do pc growers use 70w HPS bulbs and not kill their plants. I mean I'm just looking for an HID to get more penetration otherwise I'm just gonna have to use a shit load of CFL side lighting and top mounts.

Yeah, 150 HPS is the one to use..
-150 hps security light- 80$
-Aluminum bowl- 2$
-plexi glass heat resistant- ?$ lol

I read about it in a forum on overgrow.com , but the site got shut down. So, I was hoping to find help on here as well. But, from what I remember reading your suppose to screw the light socket into an aluminum bowl big enough to hold the bulb and be used at a reflector, then buy a plexi-glass dish that covers the bowl perfect. After that , just wire it up , and cut a hole in the top of the rubbermaid container.

Well, pc growers are using a metal case, which basically acts as a giant heatsink...

oh and use the $20 150W econo light over a $80 security light.

You can make the econolight have a remote ballast just by take 2 screws out and and cutting the wires and making them longer, makes the heat very minimal, 150w of CFL's I think has more heat than 150hps with remote ballast. Just make sure you have good exhaust, and an oscillating fan. And of course a passive intake/forced intake.

yea right now i'm running a 100w mh in a doubt rubbermaid setup one rightside up the other upside down. I have a remote ballast (it was an 80$ security light which i dissassembled) and i drilled a hole in the top wired the remote ballast. i put a 80mm 70cfm pc fan on the top left and a 2" pvc elbow on the opposite side so when the fan is on it draws air straight across the bulb. No cooltube no reflector temps stay exactly at room temps.

Remember pc cases are rather metallic, and they radiate the heat away very well by design.. Rubbermaids are much more insulating..

You might be better off using CFL's.

I think the question is how much light does 2x36 gal tote need? I think 150w HPS would be the very most you'd want to try and put in there...

I use 1 18gal tote, but use LEDs.... Cannabis TV :: Video :: Smoke from all around!

If I was going to go HPS, I think I'd use 2 70w bulbs... If it gets too hot, you could always drop down to one bulb during the hot part of the day or whatever...but get some good fans or you'll just have a really big DIY easybake oven (also potential fire)

im using 200 watts of cfls and a 70 watt hps. it can be done. but o wouldnt go over 150 watts

If you can pull that off, I'd be impressed, but I doubt you can..

i got a 100 hps in two rubbermaids the temps stay 7-8 degrees above ambient. two pc fans one inake one exhaust with a cool tube for light.

yea i use one 120 mm exhausting from a cool tube. one 6 in exhaust fan, one 120 mm intake fan and another passive intake
