Amazingly simple, thanks for the fast reply! My setup is pretty boring as well, flood/drain with GH Lucas formula. I basically check the ph/ppms every few days and adjust accordingly, dump the reservoir once a month and start over. Usually straight coco but sometimes I get wild and throw a layer of hydroton in the bottom for giggles. I could leave for a week without a worry in the world but I would miss looking at my girls.

Dude, modern components are so robust, it's really hard to mess up with cobs. If you look up a three minute video on youtube about soldering and use some basic knowledge (think positive/negative car battery hookup), you are well equipped. Pretty much as easy as sticking a little tile to a metal thing, and putting a wire between the positive and negative terminals of other tiles on pieces of metal, and then connecting those to a driver (just look up what one to buy if you don't want to do any math or know much about electronics). Boom, you're schlonging hps.
man you know it sound so easy. i'll definitely look into it. any other good places to start, aside from what you've already told me?

Not really man, just shop around for components to get the best deal. For what most people will want, you can get your chips pretty reasonably priced over at Pacific Light Concepts. They only sell one variety, the ones you want. Then use the driver I told you about, get the cheapest cpu coolers you can (around 9 bucks on amazon) and thermal epoxy. Gunk the chips on the coolers after you scrape the factory thermal compound off, and connect the positives and negatives. You also need what's called a 12V to molex adapter, just plugs into the wall and has a molex connector:

http://www.amazon.com/Coolerguys-100-240v-Molex-Power-Adapter/dp/B000MGG6SC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453450108&sr=8-1&keywords=12v+to+molex

then you plug the molex male into one of these guys:

http://www.amazon.com/Phobya-4-Pin-3-Pin-Splitter-Connection/dp/B007S3T4O0/ref=sr_1_10?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1453450159&sr=1-10&keywords=fan+splitter

then plug the little connectors that come off the cpu cooler fans to the board.

You also need one of these guys for the driver, it doesn't come with a plug connected to the end of the A/C in.

http://www.amazon.com/Pass-Seymour-SA399WCC10-Residential-Straight/dp/B000BQLSHW/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1453450354&sr=8-2&keywords=grounded+plug

and that's it, superglue the coolers to something, they aren't very heavy at all and the glue will hold them for years with just a thin layer on top of the fan's little plastic chassis. I use the generic blue loctite from autozone.

Oh yeah, and get 16 AWG wire from home depot for all the hookup. I tried using cheap 18 AWG but it was too thin and started smoking immediately.

No worries knowledge will set you free. Thought id throw in a few snaps of the garden on this frosty night. Looking happy praying to the cob gods. haha ripped on some headband right now and im crippled yet energized. cool buzz compared to the heavy indica master kush we always have. I want to try another round in the 5x5 with bare cobs next time and see what i can do with that maybe get a litte better intensity with slightly better coverage due to the wider angle. 80* work nice when im roughly 20" from the tops it seems. With veg it can be much further. Anyway just jabberin.. Pics. I also want to know what my ppfd would come out to with the current setup so correct me if i made some mistakes

600w x 51% Efficiency = 306 Par Watts
306X4.65=1422 PPFD
10% Transmittance? Loss 1422x.09= 1279PPFD
5x5=2.25M2
So
1279ppf /2.25
=565 PPF

Wow man, looking super healthy. I'll take some photos of some test strains I'm running right now, I have a Dr. Who pheno and a brand new five-week cookie that mutated out of a durban f1 cross that you guys have to see. Like the cookies are a 41 day cut. Purple, flopping, amber, at 5 weeks without me shocking them or locking anything out. Absolutely covered in frost, and it's a cherry pie pheno so they smell like cookies and new car. I really think this is a $10,000 cut, you guys will have to give me some opinions.

Update: Starting my week and a half or so flush tonight. Looking at the trics and plants they will be ready within the next couple weeks. I usually take them down at 65 days under hps but they look done almost a week early. Still not much amber but lots of milky so i will wait the 62-65 days and take them down. Want to get a nice and proper flush on these babies to get the best final product. Right now compared to the same cuts run in my buddies grow under 600 hortis my flowers look smaller but when you squeeze them they are twice as dense. Much more color under the leds as well. Had some cool temps but still looking to be on track for my best gpw ever. Will post pics before chop and dry weights. By far the greenest and most triked out flowers ive ever had. Usually by now i have some leaf fade but this run their as healthy as ever. Smell is off the charts. You can see the two different strains in the overhead picture pretty well. The stretchier golf ball purple nugs are the GSC and the green leafy ones are my Holy Grail Kush cut from DNA. Shes usually a stretch monster but for some reason this run stayed very short and stocky which im thinking came from the foliar feeding off Bio Cozyme by growmore the first two weeks after the flip. Ive known a few people who have tried this and said it worked and i now have anecdotal evidence myself it works. Anyway here are the pics before the beginning of the end ! The one picture you can see the mylar in the back is a flower obviously on the edge of the 5x5 but is still looking pretty damn nice for being on the edge of the coverage design of my light. Uber impressed with the performance of this light. Im going to build another soon but i think i will run them at 75w each with the same type of setup but bigger spacing between . Cover more area with more light. A little less efficient but from what im seeing i dont feel i would see much of a difference except more yield and better coverage. We will see, eventually my whole setup will be cobs and im sure i will have people wanting me to build them some after i show them the results. I already have people asking me based on what theyve seen already and thats without seeing or weighing the final product. Cheers!

Great pictures! How are the lower buds coming along? Thanks for sharing!
Actually I was looking at them today and I'd say even a foot from the crown down has a good sized dense buds on them. I was pretty impressed with the "penetration" of the light. On par with a thouie imo. If I get get 1.5 with gsc under 600w I'll be happy. Any more and I'll be ecstatic. The flush is on as of yesterday. Prettiest plants and the most frosty run I've had with this cut since Ive had it which is about 2 years now. Way more dense and frosty then my other spot with the hps. Hps looks like it's more but it's much fluffier and the smell is much more loud with the leds. And the colours. Omg jiz in the pants Half baked style bag appeal in the works. Haha love that movie

Holy, man that is looking good, props to you brotha. I really like that your camera is kind of shitty, and when you open the full sized image, you plants kind of look like an oil painting.

Funny thing is its the newest Samsung but It doesnt like the light intensity with lights on so it does that wierd thing. Also doesn't help I dropped it in a puddle and got water under the camera glass lol.

Update time. Everything is down and trimmed. Both tents. First tent is 700w of area 51 xgs190 and rw150 s. Looks pretty good. Yield guessing about a elbow and a half. And my diy tent wow is all I have to say. Looking like 2+ elbows from 600w. Here's a pic of them hanging after trim. Will update with a pic of the 5 gallon cure pails when dry. 20160216_162401.jpg
