So, I just bought this :-P:-P

HTGSupply Ultimate 400w HPS & MH Grow Light

And my question is,

What is the difference between MH and HPS? Should I use the MH for Veg and the HPS for flowering?

Here is my plant so far from CFL growing ( Time to get in the big league lol)

yes, you can use the MH to veg, and then hps to flower. The MH gives off a blue light and the hps a orange and red look most like the suns rays.
as far as in the lumens i am not sure. I now have a veg room and a flowering room and i dont use my mh right now but i might end up getting another ballast for my veg side.

good luck to you and your grow:-)

Yea, I have one going in my sig, but its with the CFLs, I will switch it up a bit or just create a new one now that I am getting the grown ups set. :P

So excited! My plants are going to love it.

Anyone know of possible shock from going to CFLs to MH ? Just wondering ..

yea mh is alot more intense, ide keep that light like 4feet from the plants at first and lower as time goes on.

No shock from different lights, just make sure they are appropriate distance from the plant. With an open hood like that i would say 12 inches minimum with a fan blowing up at the light.

It will be a good stepping stone for sure. this light will help eliminate having too little light so you can focus on fine tuning other factors of your grow. just watch your heat. that light is going to put off a decent amount of heat with the way that hood is. Also the ballast gets quite hot, i have the same. so make sure you buy a min/max temp thermometer and watch it for a few days before you put your plants in(if possible).

you can use either bulb all the way through, but MH generally does veg better while HPS produces thicker denser buds flowering. Though the correct hps bulb can work in veg as well the right MH can flower well. MH generally also has more resinous buds when used for flowering, some people mix both.

When your confidant with this stuff look up CMH, Ceramic Metal Halide. its relatively new, but i can say first hand that its an awesome bulb that changes the game(more so for us small growers). and best part is it will work on that ballast.
