Hps Setup...Need Help

people..i need some help...ive got a security light 500w halogen...and want to change it to a 200w hps.....can i do it and what do i need....detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated...so come on you ganja tech guys and giz a shout....cheers

Umm...I think you will need whats referred to as a miracle...

To my knowledge the only part of the security light you could even consider using in this conversion would be the reflector... Maybe the power cord. This leaves you needing a ballast and bulb. And if you have to spend money anyway, you mind as well just buy an actual 250w hps grow light from a shop.

200w HPS not too be rude but drop a bill and go by one ebay there cheap special a 200 watter plus will probably be cheaper in the long run any way

Yeah, Halogen bulbs are essentially the same technology as an incandescent bulb from what I remember. High Pressure Sodium and Metal Halide are High Intensity Discharge technology, however, and need a ballast to boost the voltage to ignite the bulbs, they essentially create an electrical arc in the bulb. Halogen will not work for plants, you'll want to look at 250W HPS setups at hydro stores.

If you're growing in an enclosed location you'll want to put the bulb in a cooltube as well and run air ducting with a fan to force air past the bulb and directly out of the grow space to keep temperatures down. 6" cooltubes can be found at shops but if that's too large or you're DIY-minded buy a Pyrex Bake-A-Round 4" tube from eBay and hack it together with a reflector, mogul socket, and cordset.
