HPS Temps.

Hey any one whos using HPS I am wondering when you take your room temps do you do it from under the lights, or above them?

Silly question, but I am using a 600watt atm and I am used to LED. But I wanted to try both this time, and under my light I am getting 86-92. So I wanted to make sure before I yank it and think of other ideas. The room is 2.5 wide by like 6 foot for the plant are. All together the room is around 12 foot wide, other half is my res tank and AC unit. Although I even pushed my AC all the way up to the lights, and pumped it at 70 degrees to keep the heat under the light from getting hot.

But that will mean my AC unit has to be on 24/7 and even now is having a hard time.

Thanks

You take the temps at top of plant level. Most call it canopy level

Um ok that's were I am taking temps from. I set ac to 73, rest of the room goes to 73 even right above the light. This is a air cooled hood. I can hold my hand under it all day long newly touching it. I have it 15 inches away from the canopy right now.

That would mean the rest of the room has to be what like 68 degrees? If that's the case it really does not seem to be worth it to use hid, the power cost just from keeping room that cold deems high heh.

Let your temps rise to 77 if you want. I would. No need to keep 73 degrees and run your a/c all day. Do you have an exhaust system yet?

Yeah that's hooked up and running. But what I mean is I can set room to 77 but I put gauge under light on top leaves reads 86-95. I have exhaust all hooked up, and fans blowing as well.

Youre running way too hot man, can you put a fan to just blow some fresh air into there? Or dim the light if u can.. But gotta get those temps down one way or another... 72 is fine ambient temp, 80 inside is what you want. Maybe even a little lower.. If you aren't achieving these temps, time to look for some ventilation upgrades, Such as exhaust or circulation fan.

I'm not experienced with cool tubes but I have hps, and I used to have temp problems until I worked out ventilation (& moved out of a closet). Some strains dont mind very much but others will suffer greatly above a certain temp. The solution is to take advantage of natural air tendencies, like cold air sinks and hot air rises etc. But the way you manipulate your airflow must work with the layout of your area (make sure the air has somewhere to go).
