Quick question...as of right now i have a 400W HPS over the big girls and a 250W MH over the veg ladies...i really feel like i need more light in my life so i was thinkin of replacin the 400W w a 600W HPS and moving the 400 over...my budgets kinda tight now so if i get the 600 i cant get the EyE HOrtilux MH for the 400 (its switchable) quite yet..maybe for a month or so...so my question is...HOw is the HPS on veg? any issues for anybody? i know they crave a lot more blue/green light during veg and the HPS obviously is geared towards reds/yellows so does anyone have any issues doin HPS veggin?

Plant leaves don't use green light, they reflect it. The average 400w HPS will beat the average 250w MH in veg because the larger coverage area can accomplish much more than the better spectrum.

duh w/the green i wasnt payin attention to what i typed...but ya i dont plan on using the HPS for veg for long so would that F*** up the plants and maybe make some hermie goin from MH to HPS to MH all within maybe a month/month and a half? thats my only concern...

Don't worry about it. Correcting little errors like that is just so future readers of this thread don't get the wrong idea.

Afaik you can always increase light up to what the plants can handle. It's just that decreasing light considerably runs the risk of the plant thinking the days are getting shorter, deciding to start flowering.

No. Vegging plants do grow well under slightly bluer light than is best for flowering but the difference in ideal spectrums isn't as big as people make it out to be. Any lighting a plant grows well under in veg, it will grow well under in flowering, and vise versa. Perfecting the spectrum would just make a little more weight possible.

umm i veg under hps and my shit is so bushy its sick. I have to constantly cut them down. I cut over a foot off a month. atleast. I wouldnt do it any other way gents. My seedlings start out under 6500k flour. though.

never had a mh but i have vegged under my 400w hps and they did great. the increase in node spacing was barely noticable over the plants vegged under "blue" t5s and they grew faster. in fact it is this very reason that i now mix the spectrum of my t5s just for vegging.
